Crisp pints, sticky floors, and great tunes. A sweet chili and garlic mayo-dripping doner kebab on the way home.

Sounds like a pretty good night, right?

But what, then, if the re-opened nightlife threatens the fitness and the mindset that you’ve built up the past year working out, hour after hour?

impulse writer Seán McGill writes about finding the balance between the gym and the pub in “Biceps Booze Balance”. Read it when the magazine drops!

Ieva brings us on her journey as she bravely exposes her feelings and talks about the reality of therapy, especially in COVID-19 times.

'Feel free to expose yourself for 50 minutes, but then pretend it never happened. It goes something like this: “Hello, when could I book my next emotional breakdown? Kind regards, Ieva".'

"Apparently, I suck at writing emails to therapists - ironic for a writer."

Why Do Women Feel Uncomfortable at the Gym? Emma Barton talks about her experiences going to the gym as a woman.

"I have danced since I was a child, studies have shown that putting a child into dance classes increases their levels of confidence. However, the minute I set foot in a gym this confidence escapes my body and I shyly pad my way over to the quietest corner of the room."

Up-and-Coming Artists Incoming:

This is impulse's up-and-coming artists for this edition of impulse!

Rose Gray is an up and coming soulful London singer-songwriter who is a part of the nineties rave music revival scene. At the beginning of this year Gray released her album 'dancing, drinking, thinking, talking', which was a hit. Gray is lyrically sublime and her voice is unmatched. She is the nostalgic hidden gem of 2021.

Tallulah Rose is an up and coming Edinburgh Jazz saxophonist and singer-songwriter studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory. This summer she released her soulful debut EP 'Rise' to a very positive reception. Her musicianship and lyrics are mature beyond her nineteen years and will remind you of warmer places during the cold winter ahead. This is definitely one to keep an eye out!

“Remember to turn off the lights to save the polar bears,” impulse writer Emma Barton was told as a child.

And sure, she argues, each of us must do as much as possible to fight climate change. But how much does it actually help the suffering planet to turn off the water while brushing your teeth, when a single pair of jeans takes 1.800 gallons of water to produce?

It’s a story about taking responsibility, and about a young generation that can’t afford to lose hope. Read “The Whole World in Our Hands” when impulse magazine launches very soon!

When does a place become a home?

impulse writer Tobias Nørgaard had to ask himself that question as his home in Denmark was replaced with a new one in Scotland three months ago.

“Once I entered my narrow, IKEA-furnished room, I sat down on the bed with thoughts and
feelings spinning faster and faster inside of me. Empty shelves, empty drawers, empty hangers. It even smelled empty. Hospital-room clean.”

You can read how it all ended in ‘When does a place become a home’ when impulse magazine launches this week!

During Covid, skate shops have seen sales double and even triple.

Some of these new skaters may have been inspired by Sky Brown, the 13-year-old Olympic bronze winner, flying around on her board this summer. Others may just have grown weary from isolation and lockdown. For them, skateboarding offered much more than fresh air, fun, and a couple of bruises.

It offered a new beginning.

Meet Gia Illenseer, one of the new skaters, in ‘The Daily Grind’ by Tobias Nørgaard when impulse drops this Friday.
