19/10/2022

Tower DAB are pleased to announce that they have submitted licence bids to OFCOM to run 4 digital radio mutiplexes in Scotland. They are, in no particular order:
Inverclyde
Stirling & Falkirk
East Fife, including St. Andrews
Berwickshire & Roxburgh (Scottish Borders), also including the towns of Hawick and Jedburgh which were just outside the original designated licence area.

A number of service providers (Radio Stations) are part of our applications and again in no particular order they include: TD1 Radio, TD9 Radio, Radio Northumberland, Lionheart Radio, K107, Dunoon Community Radio, Lomond Radio, Centresound, Forth Valley Radio, Radio Earn, BFBS, Celtic Music Radio, Radio Borders, Radio Royal, Timeless Radio, Edge Radio, Quality Radio and a number of stations that didn't quite confirm their intentions to be part of our applications. We will of course welcome them on board at a later date.

We now need to wait for the regulator OFCOM to make a favourable decision on our applications. We expect a decision about the end of the year.

TOWER DAB TO BID FOR 4 SCOTTISH DAB MULTIPLEX LICENCES

Announced today that Tower DAB will bid for new multiplex operators licences in Inverclyde, Stirling & Falkirk, Scottish Borders and East Fife, all of which are currently being advertised by OFCOM with a closing date for applications of October 14th.

Spencer Pryor of Tower DAB said that along with local partners in Inverclyde and Stirling and Falkirk, that Tower DAB has produced robust and workable transmitter plans to enable DAB Digital Radio to be broadcast in these areas at a local level for the first time.

Any radio station wanting to get on air in any or all of these areas is encouraged to visit towerdab.co.uk and see further information there and register an 'expression of interest' before Sunday 9th October.

**** LATEST NEWS - 20 February 2022 ****

We have now been informed by OFCOM that the winners of the Blackpool and other 'Round 2' licences of the current SSDAB multiplex licencing applications in the North West will now not be announced until the end of April 2022. No reason has been given but from prior experience we assume that OFCOM might be having some concerns over multiplex frequency overspills into other areas.

The TowerDAB application was designed to ensure that overspill into other licence areas, specifically Preston and Southport was kept to an absolute minimum, unlike other applicants who proposed a high power solution with unavoidable overspill.

Naturally we are disappointed with this news as we had planned to be 'on air' and operating during the Summer of 2022. This award delay now means that it would be the Autumn of 2022, probably October or November, before we could launch at the earliest.

If we get any further news, we will post it here.

Applications to OFCOM have now closed for the Blackpool SSDAB multiplex and we are pleased to announce that we are planning a 2 transmitter site SFN network, which will initially carry 11 stations including Fylde Coast Radio, Blackpool Radio, Sandgrounder Radio, 45 Radio, Gaydio, Visit Radio, Pride Radio, Diamond Life and several others.

Now we shall just have to wait and see whether we have any competition for the licence!

Welcome to TowerDAB - Digital Radio for The Fylde. Tower DAB is a consortium of experienced radio station operators and technical boffins who have joined together to apply to OFCOM to bring up to 20 new digital DAB radio stations to the Fylde.

Our application will be going into OFCOM at the beginning of September and if we're successful we expect to launch across the Fylde Coast in June 2022.

We are now looking for radio stations to join us in bringing a wide mix of genres and styles to the diverse population of The Fylde. Whether you're an experienced broadcaster - commercial or community - and want to be heard, why not get in touch with us.

Most radio listening now is to digital radio, and digital DAB is far more cost effective to broadcast than FM or AM transmissions. Carriage charges to broadcast your crystal clear stereo output range from FREE to bona fide local community stations to 20p an hour for small scale commercial stations. Get on air for a song!
