Are you thinking of leaving your subscription TV service, what are your options ?
The fact of the matter is, the cost of home entertainment and house hold bills is always on the increase and with the current squeeze on peoples income we are looking for alternatives . With that in mind, it’s little wonder so many of us are looking for cheaper alternatives to Sky, Virgin Media and BT. But what’s out there beyond the big three that is actually worth the money?

In this guide, we’re going to explore all the best alternatives you can take when it comes to getting great entertainment for less or even free, apart from maybe a new satellite dish or TV aerial. There are plenty of great alternatives to Sky. You just need to do a little bit of digging. You’ll also need to consider your budget, too – as well as exactly what you want from your entertainment provider, If you want to record you may have to purchase a set top box for this, but once you have it there will be no monthly bills

That being said, it might just be a case of thinking outside of the box. We’ve got access to more channels and shows than we’ve ever had before. Sometimes, it’s not so hard to look for alternatives to Sky as it is to find worthwhile replacements. Everyone’s TV needs are going to be slightly different.

Therefore, in this guide, we’ll be looking at viable alternatives to Sky, Virgin Media, BT and more. We’ll run down some of the best ways for you to save cash on your monthly TV bills, all the while not missing out on your favourite shows, movies and events. You don’t have to keep paying for Sky Q or Virgin unless you want to. Start thinking about cheaper or even free ways to entertain yourself!

The Cheapest
Let’s start with the absolute cheapest. Freeview is, of course, absolutely free. It has been ever since it was first brought in around the time of digital TV taking over the analogue signals. Freeview is a service that’s pretty much available to anyone with a TV, full stop. Most TVs have built in Freeview already installed, which means all you need to do is connect up a set-top box or an aerial to get going.

While Freeview is free on the surface, costs may vary when it comes to paying for a box or a device for you to stream it through. However, this is normally less than £40-£50, which is a pretty sweet price to pay when it means you get all the programmes it provides for free from here on out.

Where Freeview falls down is, naturally, the choice of channels available. However, there are still over 80 standard definition and 15 HD so it is still a viable alternative to Sky TV packages if you’re mainly interested in one or two channels or shows.

Freeview TV channels include all the BBC standards, ITVs, Channel 4 and 5, as well as plenty of niche channels such as Dave, Quest, CBS, and even the Horror Channel. What’s more, there are even a few on demand services tied in, too. Think about the TV you actually want to watch, and weigh up whether or not it’s worth going subscription-free.

The Bottom Line: It’s free, all you need is a good working TV aerial and a TV, but it’s limited in terms of channels. If you don’t watch TV much, or only watch a few stations, Freeview is a brilliant cheaper alternative to Sky.

Freesat


Freesat is a digital satellite TV service from the BBC and ITV, offering even more free channels than are available on Freeview. As with Freeview, there are no ongoing fees and you don’t have to worry about a contract – but you’ll need a satellite dish fitted to your proerty to receive Freesat. While this can require an initial outlay, it may suit those who don’t get the best reception with Freeview. You’ll also need a Freesat set-top box or Freesat TV – some of which allow you to pause and rewind live TV and the new versions offer all the usual apps and 4K viewing.

The Bottom Line: It’s free,all you need is a satellite dish a Freesat TV or a set top box, the ability to pause and rewind live TV is great and the new generation of set-top boxes are very user friendly and offer lots of streaming options and and 7 day catch up service.

Hi, I just want to say a huge thank you. Your engineer turned up as booked, we didn’t expect him to be honest due to the weather, wind etc. He was very polite, professional, and so Covid aware, respected distance, wore a mask not contact with the debit card when taking payment, etc. If only others businesses/establishments could so vigilant.
