Consistency has always been a challenge.
✨ Shiny object syndrome;
✨ Hyperfocus to burnout;
✨ Procrastination expert;
New Year’s resolutions don’t work either; I gave up on them years ago.
Now, I set some simple but clear goals to achieve.
But what does work for me is ‘little and often.’
(Although I do need visual reminders to make sure I remember!)
Yet, there are two things I am pretty consistent with:
🫖 Putting the kettle on to make a mug of tea (Yorkshire tea in a large mug 🥰)
🏋️♀️ Doing my three-times a week 30-minute HIIT classes (for my head as much as my fitness 💪)
I recently chatted with an old school friend about ‘habit stacking’, a term coined by James Clear, author of Atomic Habits.
She had started to do it and found it easy, so I decided to try.
☑️ As I wait for the kettle to boil, I do a few small tasks (like putting the washing up away or sticking a wash on).
☑️ And going to HIIT this morning, I decided to add another job after the class:
- I walked with a boxed-up shelf to take to the post office 🤘🏻
- And returned with a bag of potatoes and a suede 🤣
I felt quite accomplished achieving these small wins, plus I got some additional exercise in, and it was only 10 o’clock.
Have you ever tried habit-stacking?
What do you do to be consistent?
Let me know what works for you…
PS Happy New Year, by the way. It has taken me a week or so to get back into “work mode”...
