One thing that really does wind me up is when I am walking behind someone and they decide to use a v**e and a huge plume of smoke which smells of strawberry cheesecake comes drifting into your face.

Some big news for the residents of Whaley Bridge

Some big news for the residents of Whaley Bridge

I am very sorry to report that the Labour Party have prevented me from standing as a Labour county councillor for Whaley Bridge and Blackbrook in the election this May.
I have many concerns about the process used, but I can report:
1. Not a single concern has been raised with me by the Party about my 5 years as councillor, when I have sought to do my best for the whole community, for the many individuals in need who seek my help, and for the Labour Party.
2. It has been falsely alleged that I am “not supportive” of the current MP - who in spite of my efforts to do so, has refused to work or campaign with me and has supported one of his staff members to become the Labour candidate for Whaley Bridge & Blackbrook, instead of me.
3. I am deeply saddened that the Labour Party - which I joined at age 18 and have dedicated 37 years of my life to working hard for and representing - decided to support bullying behaviour instead of the inclusive teamwork and solidarity I have always valued in our party.
4. I will continue to be the county councillor for Whaley Bridge and Blackbrook until the May elections and will do my best for everyone while considering my options.
I’ve loved being the county councillor for my home area, supporting the wonderful people and organisations that make up our lovely community to try and achieve the best for our area. I’m proud to have been able to help in many ways:
- ensuring free school buses from Whaley Bridge and Chinley
- forcing Derbyshire to spend the £2.3m Safer Roads funding on Long Hill
- supporting dozens of local groups with funding grants, volunteering and publicity
- recycling school uniforms every summer to help hundreds of local families at 6 schools
- holding 4 surgeries each month - in Whaley Bridge, Furness Vale, Chinley and Buxworth
- helping hundreds of local people in need who come to me for advice and support.
- As deputy leader of the Derbyshire Labour Group since 2021, and lead member for both adult social care and children’s services, I’ve led our campaigns against care home, day centre and children’s centre closures, helping to ensure Whitestones and Eccles Fold Day Centre remained open, and I’m proud to have held Derbyshire Tories to account for their many failings.
Thank you to everyone who has worked with me and supported me. I’m honoured to have won the votes of so many local people and I have worked hard to earn the trust you placed in me.
And to have worked with the many wonderful Labour Party members and representatives who - like me - believe in teamwork and doing our best for local people. We have been a great team, and won some important campaigns.
I joined the Labour Party at age 18 because I believed in social justice and fighting inequality.
I still believe in social justice and fighting inequality - I just need to work out how best to continue that fight.

We’ve just had this message sent to us and have been asked to share.

Hi, My friend was involved in a serious incident Wednesday and would like to warn others -

BE CAREFUL WHICH ALTERNATIVE ROUTE YOU TAKE WHILE THE MACC ROAD/S SHUT!

On Wednesday 12th February, at about 7:30pm I was attacked in my car on Hooleyhey Lane, Rainow, while following a diversion.

I was behind a dark Toyota Hilux pick up. Had no communication with the driver of that vehicle at all, there was no prior incident etc and I was following at a normal distance behind him (as my dash cam footage shows).

However, as we turned a corner, the Hilux indicated to turn left, but pulled slightly right blocking the road and the driver got out of the car.

Walking towards my car he shouted something, I was confused and put the window down to hear him shouting about me getting in his boot. He came to the side of my car and shouted that I was ‘up his arse’ which, again, the dash cam footage shows there was no tailgating.

I am a paraplegic and cannot walk, so I use a wheelchair to get around and hand controls to drive. My wheelchair sits on the passenger seat while I’m driving - the man will have seen these things when stood at the drivers window.

However, unprovoked, he grabbed me by the throat and started to tighten his grip. As I tried to push him off, he adjusted his weight and pressed further into my neck.

Being paralysed and physically unable to do anything but sit in my car on a dark back road with a man trying to strangle me was horrendous and I cannot express how badly the incident has affected me. Knowing he will have seen a wheelchair and adaptions in the car and still make me fear for my life shows how dangerous this man is.

The evidence is currently with Cheshire police and being investigated. But knowing this man is still out there and capable of hurting more people, especially vulnerable people, is awful. I want to share this so that people can be aware and keep themselves safe from such a dangerous person.

Please if walking your dog(s) near livestock have them on leads.
Yesterday 5 sheep were killed and 3 dogs were shot dead after.
This happened near Moorfields.
Obviously this was very upsetting for those involved and anyone who witnessed it.

We have been told the dogs escaped from a from a near by garden.

Can you help the police identify a vehicle which was driving the wrong way on the bypass near Chapel on Monday morning?

Police are appealing for any dashcam footage regarding an incident in the Buxton Road / Bypass area of Chapel-en-le-Frith - this has occurred on Monday 10th February at approximately 8.43 am.

A blue Toyota Aygo has travelled the wrong way up the slip road, which goes into Chapel, and crossed the path of both oncoming traffic and 2 lanes of vehicles travelling in the direction of Barmoor Clough. The road was busy due to the time of day.

This part of the road is just before the location that the speed limit reduces to 50 mph and where the lanes merge to one lane, just as you head towards Barmoor Clough. The below map illustrates the area in question.

If you were in the area at the time and possibly witnessed this incident taking place or if you have any dash-cam footage, then please contact Derbyshire Constabulary and quote reference 2500084759 - by using any of the below methods;

Website – We have crime reporting tools on our website: https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/

Phone – call us on 101
You can also anonymously contact the independent charity CrimeStoppers, on 0800 555 111, or by visiting the CrimeStoppers website: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/

A coffee chain with more than 100 branches has submitted a planning application for a Grade II Listed building in The Quadrant in Buxton town centre.
Gail’s Ltd, opened its first bakery in 2005 in Hampstead High Street.

Now the chain, which has more than 100 bakery stores across the country, wants to open in the former Barclay’s Bank in Buxton.

The proposal to High Peak Borough Council is for full planning permission, advertisement consent and Listed Building Consent at 5-6 The Quadrant.

Parts of the building date back to 1860 and are grade II listed, the site is also located within the Buxton Central Conservation Area.

The plans, if approved, would comprise the installation of new partitions, counters, re-heating equipment, food and drink preparation areas, sinks, shelves, customer seating, storage, and customer and staff restrooms, associated with a café/bakery use.

Speaking in a statement submitted with the application the coffee chain said: “Gail’s seek to provide their standard menu at this location, which will only include a small amount of primary cooking on site typically porridge and eggs.

“The vast majority of food would be simply reheated in an oven or baked within a proofing oven, and therefore typical of a bakery use. “As such, the application does not involve the installation of new external extraction at the site.

“The existing AC units, located to the rear of the building under the existing flat roof, are to be utilised as part of these proposals.”

These plans have not been well received by the public with people already objecting to the proposals.

One person said: “I disagree with another corporation setting up a coffee shop in Buxton.

“We need to be supporting our independent cafes and coffee shops, especially as we now have a McDonald's appearing this year.”

Gail’s added: “The proposed alterations to the building’s exterior and interior contribute to the re-occupation of a longstanding vacant commercial unit, bringing it back to viable use within this town centre location.”
