Today is our last working day at the Where Poppies Grow studio for 2023…we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful 2024!

What a year 2023 has been! The interior of our tank Arthur is taking shape and we have been working hard behind the scenes pushing the studio project to interested parties, showcasing at Carlisle Ambassadors and working on a feasibility study with support from Cumberland Council which is scheduled to be signed off very soon!

Finally to round the year off we were back filming last weekend with our 2nd Unit picking up key shots for our opening scenes. A huge thank you to all of our cast and crew giving their time and skills to make this happen… onwards towards 2024!!!

As work continues on the Tank build for our feature ‘Pendragon’, our lead actor N. Andrew Elliot has been busy making a short film with fellow cast and crew. When completed ‘On Borrowed Time’ will be released on the festival circuit to promote ‘Where Poppies Grow’.

A fantastic event for local filmmakers! (and anyone interested in how films are made)

‘On Location- An Evening with Mally Chung’ taking place at our Stanwix Theatre in Carlisle on Monday 15 May.

An alumnus and university Honorary Fellow, Mally studied media in the city prior to establishing a career as Location Manager working on many major blockbuster films over the last two decades.

Mally will be in conversation with Michael Mitchell, from our Institute of Arts. Mally will talk about his experiences, what it takes to begin a career in the film industry and how he has enabled his home county of Cumbria to be showcased on international screens as locations for films such as Bond’s Quantum of Solace and Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Interspersed with film footage and personal anecdotes, this evening promises to be highly entertaining and inspiring.

A free screening of Atonement will take place at 4pm before Mally and Michael’s ‘In Conversation’ session begins at 6.30pm.

Pendragon: Yesterday was our last filming day of 2022 (and one of the coldest!) We were filming additional explosive scenes with Lieutenant Fletcher and his men. A massive thanks once again to our cast and crew in making this film possible.

This weekend we started to film the opening scenes for Pendragon. Filming took place over both Saturday and Sunday with our fantastic volunteer cast and crew, some of whom have joined us for the first time.

A huge thank you to all involved and especially to our main actor for the weekend, Philip Hewitson who played Lieutenant Fletcher.
