Thank you Doreen.

Canonbie Ladies had an evening out in Langholm at EXCEL Youth Trust. Project manager John Innes gave us an insight on the many things this project does. After seeing a video of the various activites we were taken on a tour of the building where we saw a music room, art and playrooms, the highlight being the sensory room for children with problems. EXCEL is a group of three people and volunteers helping young people to gain skills and to realise their potential in a challenging enviroment. They also have holiday programmes going on coach trips to activity centres, a youth club and cafe. This was a very interesting meeting on a very wet and windy night.

It was lovely to see members and visitors at Canonbie SWI on 16th Feb.
Ashleigh Hope Wylie gave an excellent talk about her work as a Conservationist working for Network Rail. It was amazing and quite humorous how animals in nature can disrupt the normal running of the railway. From moving badgers to an artificial set, or just cutting holes in fences to allow easy access for hedgehogs and much more, it’s all in a day’s work for a Network Rail Conservationist.

On such a cold night it was lovely to see 24 ladies at Canonbie SWI evening with visitors from Ewes and Westerkirk.
Katherine Latimer entertained us with a talk about the history of a Latimers who started in 1882 (they’re older than Marks & Spencer). It was amazing to hear her family story with fascinating old photographs and newspaper reports. It was interesting too how the business carried on through the pandemic lock downs. Thank you Katherine
