Davey Hammond on Cambridge Radio

Davey Hammond on Cambridge Radio It's all about the music...from the nooks and crannies of the musical landscape, we find it so you d I don't really know, I haven't thought about it too much!

I guess its going to be a page where I inform people when I'll be presenting the next Smelly Flowerpot broadcast on Cambridge 105. When I say people, I mean friends, family, anyone who likes to listen to quality music from all eras and genres but doesn't want to listen to the same dozen safe tunes played over and over again- plenty of people doing that! So there'll be stuff you've heard, some you'

ve not. Good stuff, bad stuff. Old, new and some not yet released. I'll search around and try and come up with interesting stuff thats not had/ likely to get regular airplay elsewhere. I'll try to be informative and, dare I say, maybe even occasionally interesting- but its all about the music really. Thinking about it (there, I'm warming to this now), maybe even listen to suggestions from your good selves on tunes worthy of an airing. And I could also post links to podcasts I've already broadcast- neat! Who knows where this might go, but without giving it a bash I'll never find out. Look in again in a years time and lets see if I have more than 10 fans......

The last time I saw Tony Jenkins was on a hot and sweaty evening in Hull when Paul Bird and I went to see a brilliant Red Guitars (the three of us pictured with Lou Duffy-Howard from the band) gig at O'Rileys in Hull last June. I'm looking forward to catching up with him tomorrow night on Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio. We'll be chatting about and playing new tunes from three of his musical ventures - The New Fools, Kammahav and The Kobayashi Bookstore. Log on/tune in/flop out at 9pm on Cambridge 105 Radio.

I've just sent an email to an artist management company asking if somebody (quite well known) would like to be interviewed on Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio. I don't want to give it away, but the email is below, with most clues replaced with x's. I think I'm doomed to fail, but you never know. BTW, I have only ever done this twice before, both times after too much red wine. On each occasion, I failed to secure an interview:

I'm enquiring if X### X###xx is available for a radio interview on Cambridge 105 Radio, either in the studio or by phone on Cambridge 105, a community radio station operated by volunteers. Apart from the obvious fanboy thing, I used to live a couple of streets from P### in H###, drank in the G######, attended gigs at The K###x A### in S######, applauded his political stance and once sat at a table at F#########x S######x while he ate chips at an adjacent table. Tenuous I know, but my eldest son used to go to school with D### R######x's daughter at S######x P###### S###xx (this may or may not help in securing an interview, but I'll take the chance). Look forward to hearing back from you. Cheers, Dave

No biscuits, no guests just wall to wall, ear to ear quality tunes from the margins, bookended by a couple of platinum plated oldies plus a dive into the Smelly Flowerpot archives. I played Ed Harcourt, Fightmilk, Keg, The Armoires, The Speed Of Sound, Matt Finucane, Rockers Galore, Absolute Beginners, Tribes Of Europe, Nyctronix, Inferior Complex, Standing Stones with Alasdair Roberts, The Stordiau Revolution, Neck Breaking Stunts, The Proctors, The Whistling Heads, Tindersticks, Amy Rigby, Helen McCookerybook, Henry Priestman & Les Glover, Phil Jackson Music, Electric Hero and Caravan. ☝More music from margins in the latest Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio, including an extended chat with the sublime chatterbox that is Gemma Rogers music ❤. Between the banter about squatting, driving lessons, cadging lifts and the apocalypse, we got stuck into her theatrical/musical background and her recent releases, playing tracks from her brilliant debut album and imminent EP. I started and ended the show with a pair of golden oldies from The Raincoats and Ultra Vivid Scene and managed to squeeze in new music by KEELEY, Eilidh Bradley Project, Jane Weaver, Eva May, Amy Rigby, Cristiano Varisco, Lifesigns, The Parasite, and Yoke with a dive into the Smelly Flowerpot archives with My Darling Clementine and Philip Rambow. Back on Cambridge 105 Radio next Thursday at 9pm.

The purple patch of guests on Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio continues tomorrow night with the amazing Gemma Rogers music talking about (and playing tracks from) her imminent new EP, which is due out on September 20th. Who knows what else we'll chat about - maybe her brilliant gig at The Six Six Bar a couple of years ago, or her links to Cambridge, or that acclaimed debut album from 2022. Live on Cambridge 105 Radio from 9pm on Thursday night - listen on DAB, FM, on line, smart speaker or the Radio Player app. Just to whet your appetite, here's a track from that debut album, No Place Like Home - infectious doesn't come close...

☝Last night's Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio in all it's error strewn glory. Skip the first three and a half minutes of radio silence (operator error!) and land yourself halfway through Roxy Music followed by TheFifth Flaw, Bananagun, Kugelschreiber, Gina Birch, TBHQ (Hazel Rigby) and Amy Rigby. We played several tracks from Amy's new album, a track from one her collaborations with Wreckless Eric and had a very informative and entertaining chat covering everything from CBGBs, the British Invasion, recording in Nashville, the changing face of the music industry, tea towels, ordering pizza in the studio and the joy and pain of getting older. That's just off the top of my head. Full track list in the comments. Back on Cambridge 105 Radio next Thursday at 9pm.

I'm just a little giddy with excitement about the awesome Amy Rigby being my guest on Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio on Thursday night at 9pm. We'll be playing tracks from and chatting about her brilliant new album 'Hang in There with Me'. There's a fair possibility we'll mention her illuminating autobiography 'Girl to City' and a reasonable chance we'll meander down all sorts of conversational rabbit holes which may or may not include CBGBs, Robert Zimmerman, fringes, Hull and men wearing sandals. You can hear it all on Cambridge 105 Radio on FM, on DAB, on-line and on your radio app. Now that's a lot of 'ons'.

Link to Thursday's show on Cambridge 105 Radio above, the one with Wreckless Eric in the studio. Though principally there to talk about his book, 'A Dysfunctional Success: The Wreckless Eric Manual' and play a few tunes from his last album 'Leisureland', the interview took on a life of its own and was by turns extremely funny, touching, poignant, and thought provoking, taking all sorts of twists and turns (check the playlist below for an idea). I didn't get to play all the tunes I wanted to this week (they'll be on the playlist next week), but it was worth it. This was the most fun I've had in the studio, bar none. Eric is supporting Stiff Little Fingers at the Cambridge Junction on Friday 9th April.

Live tomorrow night on Cambridge 105 Radio, the man with the dodgy beard and the gent on the right, the fabulous Wreckless Eric. What's more, the equally fabulous Amy Rigby is hopefully going to visit later in the autumn, ahead of her new album. Already booked for future shows - Gemma Rogers music , TheFifth Flaw Hungrytown and Tribes Of Europe with Helen McCookerybook also pencilled in. (photo taken several years ago in Holt, Norfolk, a couple of days after slicing my head open on a cupboard door). The Smelly Flowerpot aka Davey Hammond on Cambridge 105 Radio at 9pm every Thursday.
