๐ธ ROCK HISTORY SPOTLIGHT ๐ฅ
Today we remember the legendary Cozy Powell, born on this day, 29th December, in 1947.
With a powerful, pioneering style that defined an era of hard rock and heavy metal, Cozy wasn't just a drummer; he was a force of nature behind the kit. His thunderous presence and iconic twin bass drum setups propelled some of the greatest acts in rock history.
Music fans will know his unforgettable work with:
โ
The Jeff Beck Group
โ
Rainbow (classics like "Stargazer" and "Since You Been Gone")
โ
Whitesnake
โ
Black Sabbath
โ
Gary Moore
โ
Robert Plant
โ
Brian May
โ
Emerson, Lake & Powell
Beyond his incredible band contributions, Cozy also scored a solo smash hit! His 1973 single 'Dance With The Devil' rocketed to No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, proving his star power extended far beyond the drum riser.
Tragically, the rock world lost Cozy far too soon. He was killed in a car accident on 5th April 1998. Subsequent reports revealed a perfect storm of circumstances: he was over the legal alcohol limit, not wearing a seat belt, and speaking on his mobile phone at the time of the crashโa sobering reminder that ended a brilliant life.
Today, we don't just mourn the loss, we CELEBRATE the incredible legacy. His rhythm section work remains a masterclass for drummers and a driving thrill for listeners.
