I'm having to pinch myself this morning. Last night I was lucky enough to have another poetry workshop with my mentor and beautiful friend Wow what an experience it was. I loved poetry reading on the call, close reading, exploring pieces I've written recently and all the writing exercises we did. It was such an incredible opportunity and I feel very blessed. Thank you Amanda for always believing in me and most of all inspiring me to keep writing and as you put it ' Soaring'. 💛🌿💛

Truly beautiful words

THE CANDLE

In her living room
Above the fireplace
There sits
A single candle

Lit in a dark time
To bring her
The most magnificent light
She had ever seen

Passion & honour
Flickering & dancing
Like a magical
Smiling sprite
Top full of life
And giving her the gift
Of never-ending
Beaming
Joyful
Infinite pride

As time passed
The small spark established itself
Into a confident flame
Every day growing
Larger and brighter
Burning fiercely
And illuminating
Everything it came near

Giving warmth -
Bringing pleasure
Highlighting faces of joy
And guiding her
Through life’s dark shadows

Until one day…
Suddenly…
Well before the wick
Had run it’s course

It was snuffed out

Extinguished
Barely a quarter
Of its potential seen

She cannot relight it
It is beyond her

It sits
In memoriam
On the mantelpiece
Alongside the letter
That tells her
That her child
Simply won’t return
