On Saturday 26 March, Hole & Corner and ISHKAR invite you to the studio of Sir Christopher Le Brun, for a talk about Court and Fields, a limited-edition collection of carpets designed by the artist in collaboration with ISHKAR and handwoven in Afghanistan.
The talk will share the extraordinary story behind the carpets’ journey from Afghanistan in the wake of the country falling to the Taliban, and reflect on the influences behind Le Brun’s work. The carpets will be exhibited alongside the original prints that inspired them.

HOLE & CORNER MAGAZINE - A quest for natural pigments | Issue 21: Restless, Notes & Ideas
Scottish-born artist Cavan Jayne McPherson (@cavanjmcpherson) graduated with a master’s degree in womenswear knit from the Royal College of Art (@royalcollegeofart) in 2018. Here, she explored the agriculture and innovation in natural fibre and dye. With a large archive of colour recipes and application methods, her ongoing projects include a focus on marine pigment, local dye plant agriculture and reworking/overdye collaborations with designers and artists.
McPherson’s pursuit of natural colour pigment practices has taken her on many adventures, from her birthplace on the Scottish west coast to the volcanic mud of St Lucia. Highlighting the origins of colour and fibre are central to her work. Here, shows us some pages from her travel journals…
‘When travelling, colour has always spoken to me in an incredibly multi-sensory way. I see this when, for example, the nuances in the sunrise or sunset are illuminated by a nearby texture or scent, or bodies of water reflect the vastness of the sky as wind moves with and through the waves and clouds. Growing up on the Scottish West coast, dusk was a time to down tools and appreciate the non-material forces around you: linear colours develop from the shoreline upwards to remind you that you can never recreate the infinite beauty carved by nature as the elements collide. When I travel, I am treated to a daily connection with the seascape. This is a natural feature where I find an abundance of creative inspiration.

Take a chair…
You might think of the chair as just an ordinary piece of furniture. But for designer Matteo Guarnaccia, (@emmegu) it is the subject of an indepth global anthropological study. He takes us around the world in eight chairs to discover its social and cultural significance…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What was your thinking behind Cross Cultural Chairs?

Introducing our latest Issue 21: Restless
Available to pre-order here: https://shop.holeandcorner.com/products/issue-21-refocus
We are excited to announce the launch of Hole & Corner 21, our latest issue that is both inspired by, and a result of, an ever-increasing feeling of restlessness.
The past year has given even the most dedicated homebody itchy feet. While we’ve been focusing on life inside our own four walls, we’re also keen to get away. Quite where ‘away’ is, varies from person to person. So we’ve been doing some long-distance travelling, as well as some trips closer to home that still stretch the imagination and trigger a few flagging neurons...
