In honour of Life is Strange turning a whopping 10 years old, we wanted to share one of our recent projects. ✨

Last year we had the pleasure of revisiting the world of Life is Strange and working with Square Enix again for their Nintendo Switch Release of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.

Today we're continuing on the topic of animation showreels. 💪

Last week it was all about being a Swiss army knife when it came to your showreels, but we'd love to also highlight the importance of quality over quantity in what you put forward. Showreels should be short and sweet, focusing on your best work first. You don't need to put every single project you've worked on, but we'd love to see your strongest scenes, what characters you're the most proud of, or what will keep and hold our attention. With so many applications to review and even less time, you need to think about what your strong suits are, and to an extent, what each application is looking for and how to cater to that.

Today the topic at hand is animation showreels. 💪

Showreels are an important step in the application process, and when you're swamped with reviewing a sea of incoming portfolios, it's important to stand out from the crowd. We love to see showreels that focus on a variety of styles and skills, channelling your inner swiss army knife! Show us a range of different animation techniques, how you handle different emotions in a given scene, and if you have it, how you're able to utilise rigs in numerous programs.

Today we're focusing on budget friendly tools. 💪

If you're struggling to get started in the industry, there are cheaper alternatives to learning and strengthening your skills. Of course nothing can beat everyone's favourite pen and paper combo! But for cheaper alternatives, Procreate will give you the essentials you need to level up, which you can then build upon in other programs when you're ready to upgrade or when your budget allows. Blender is also free, and allows for exploration in both 2D and 3D animation.
