Lisene joined How I Program live last week for a Music Production Masterclass focused on his laser sharp Ableton skills.
He’s using Ableton and plug ins in such a creative way so I highly recommend you watch the full 2 hour 46 mins Masterclass (link in comments) as there’s so much science being shared.
In this clip, Lisene explains how he uses a complex plug in chain on Ableton to create polyrhythmic movement in a basic synth sound to provide an inspiring start point for a track.

How I Program is THREE YEARS OLD this month which means THIRTY SIX months of Masterclasses! Huge thanks to all our guests - you’ve all been so generous with your time and your knowledge.
Since August 2020, every month, I’ve invited a top level, inspiring music artist to present a 2 hour (or more) guest masterclass for my Patreon crew. The vibe has been intimate, familial, They’ve all been amazing sessions with plenty of music production expertise being shared. But it’s a lot more than that.
We’ve had inspiring stories of overcoming adversity, insider stories of those ‘big breaks’ which led to things snowballing, plenty of artist development support from artists who’ve pushed through many barriers and plenty of music industry and artistry advice from some of the greatest to do it.
Huge thanks and respect to (in chronological order) Cinthie, Adam Pits, Crazy P, Medlar (x2), Atjazz, Rick Wade (x2), Posthuman, Zed Bias (x2), Jazzanova, Andreas Saag, Titonton Duvante, Charlton, Rebecca Vasmant, Ian Pooley, Hot Toddy, Aroop Roy, Ciel, Mousse T., Nikki Nair, Dan Curtin, Violet, Megatronic, J.O.S.H.U.A, Jason Hogans, Jordan GCZ, Bored Lord, Snad, Danielle Moore (Crazy P), Borai, DJ ADHD, Art Of Tones, Danny J Lewis.
It really means a lot to have artists of this level supporting what we do and extra extra thanks to the people who’ve done more than one masterclass - great to know you enjoyed it enough to come back!
And of course HUGE thanks to EVERYONE who’s been part of the Patreon as you made it all possible. Your interest and support in what I’m doing is really felt and appreciated. Here’s to many more years of How I Program.
Background music is by our very own Whipps, an unreleased track called ‘OOPH Bass’
It’s 3 years since I launched our music production community How I Program so we are celebrating in style with a masterclass from Danny J Lewis on Tuesday August 15th!
Danny has been producing some of the best melodic, swingy, pumping, soulful and euphoria inducing records around since the mid 90s working with legendary labels including Stronghouse, Locked On, Plastik People, MAW as well as running his own amazing imprint Just Underground.
We will be getting deep into Dannys signature sound on Tuesday August 15th from 8-10pm UK time. We will be delving deep into his influences, how he creates his beautifully fresh sound and there will be plenty of live production in the session.

It's not every day you get Danielle Moore talking you through her songwriting process on work in progress Crazy P bangers is it?!
HUGE thanks to Danielle for last weeks intimate and honest masterclass on live performance, songwriting, artist development for the How I Program crew. She's a legend!
In this clip, she talks us through the process of creating vocals for a brand new track called 'Systems Rising'.
This masterclass is perfect for anyone who's struggling to find direction or confidence in their music as Dani is full of creative advice and anecdotes about her own experiences and hurdles. She's on an incredible journey as an artist and it was great to spend time with her last night.
You can watch the full 2 hour 40 minute masterclass on the 'masterclass tier' on my Patreon until April 30th so don't delay...
Link in the comments.
Or if you're reading this after May 1st, join the 'masterclass archive tier' and select it as one of your 2 monthly archives.
It's such a dream to help create these kind of experiences for fellow artists. Honestly, humility and nurture are in short supply in the music industry so having artists like Danielle offering decades of experience and insight is truly priceless.
On a personal note too, it was very exciting to hear BRAND NEW Crazy P material in the session. The new track sounds MEGA.
We're counting down the days until Danielle from Crazy P joins us on Tuesday April 18th for a rare How I Program masterclass focussed on live performance techniques, song writing, working with producers as a vocalist and a healthy amount of artist development too.
Many people are described as 'needing no introduction' but few deserve the accolade in reality. Danielle has been the lead vocalist and part of the Crazy P song writing team for decades, she's DJ'd in just about every country in the world, played in the live band on some of the biggest stages in the world and is a highly experienced, music industry professional.
Danielle is a legendary live performer and vocalist. Her stage moves and technique are a HUGE part of Crazy Ps enduring success. So it's a real honour to invite her to speak to us about her perspective on music production, live vocals, stagecraft and more.
If you want to join us in the session, head to my Patreon (link in comments) and join the 'masterclass tier' or 'masterclass archive tier' before April 18th. The session runs from 8-10pm UK time.
If you can't watch live, never fear as the archive will be available on both those tiers until April 30th.
If you’re reading this after April, you can join our ‘masterclass archive tier’ and select it as one of your 2 monthly archives.

We have an absolute smidgen of places left for tonights Rick Wade music production masterclass for How I Program so if you're thinking of joining us live in the session... don't sleep!
We will be rolling from 8-10pm UK tonight and taking a very close look at Ricks pioneering Deep House style. He's the architect behind a very specific jazz, moody, heads down style of Detroit house which has been imitated by many and inspired several generations of House producers.
Tech check complete for tonight and great to catch up with Rick and chat about his breakthrough 'Late Night Basix' release which catapulted him from being a local DJ in Detroit to touring the world playing some of the best clubs out there.
DM me if you want to join or head to my Patreon and join the 'masterclass tier' or 'masterclass archive tier' before 7pm UK time tonight...
'Prime Time' is without doubt one of Rick Wades most popular tracks ever. It's got such an insistent, heads down, verging on techno vibe. Definitely one of the most addictive loops on wax.
It's such a banger and I was reliably told it was regularly dropped by steve bicknell at Lost back in the day which is a pretty decent benchmark I would say! I've played it all over the world and it was always the sign of a good party for me when I was like 'it's time for Prime Time'.
It was amazing to hear the full story of this classic track during Ricks first masterclass for How I Program in early 2021. One of the best parts of inviting amazing guests every month is that you get the chance to hear the actual stories behind tracks/occasions in the artists career. For me, this is highly interesting stuff to talk about. I love the history of the tracks - the deeply personal stories behind them.
Rick is back for his second masterclass on Tuesday November 15th from 8-10pm UK time. We're all really excited to welcome him back. We will be taking a close look at his seminal, pioneering Deep House sound.
You're welcome to join us. DM me for more info.
Continuing the comedic tradition from the last one, here's the promo video for the Rick Wade masterclass which is LIVE next week on Nov 15th from 8pm UK time.
Rick is a Deep House pioneer so we will be focussing on how he creates his sound. This is a must for all house music producers...
Places are limited. DM us if you want to join us next week in the session...
JOSHUA joined us last week live from his Bristol studio for a session focussed on his live set up. We get deep into the different bits of kit and how he uses them for in his live work. We were treated to plenty of live music making from Joshua so you're in for a treat.
Joshuas workflow with the Pioneer SP16, Roland TR8 and various other gadgets is truly awe inspiring so if you're interested in what's possible with a compact live set up and/or are just a fan of club ready banging music then head to our patreon and join the 'masterclass tier' or above to access the full 2.5 hour session.
