As a presenter, it’s disheartening to pour hours into every show without getting paid for the work. The reality of online radio syndication is that so many of us are expected to volunteer our time and talent, often with no compensation. From researching and scripting, to selecting the right music and editing the final product, a tremendous amount of effort goes into every single show. Yet, despite the dedication we put in to entertain and engage listeners, the culture around these stations often normalises unpaid roles. It’s a labour of love, but it does make you question how sustainable it is to keep investing so much time without any financial reward.
