HISTORY MADE IN ZAMBIA 👏

By Pumba Kasongo

Lusaka’s Maina Soko Medical Centre has achieved a groundbreaking medical milestone by successfully performing its first awake brain surgery, known as a craniotomy. The complex procedure was carried out on a 28-year-old male patient who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor requiring precise removal to safeguard critical brain functions. Remarkably, the patient remained fully conscious and responsive throughout the operation.

According to Colonel Peddy Mabuku, the Commanding Officer, the surgery involved removing a portion of the patient’s skull to access the tumor. During the nearly four-hour procedure, the medical team closely monitored the patient’s brain activity by asking him to perform simple tasks, such as moving his hands and responding to questions. This approach ensured that vital areas responsible for movement, speech, and other essential functions were not compromised.

The surgical team, comprised of experienced doctors and medical staff, meticulously conducted the operation, ensuring both precision and safety. The patient’s active participation during the surgery was critical in helping the surgeons avoid potential damage to key brain regions. This technique, though rare, proved highly effective in achieving the desired outcome.

Brigadier General Levy Muchemwa, Commandant of Maina Soko Medical Centre, commended the team for their skill and dedication. He highlighted the successful surgery as a significant accomplishment, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced healthcare services in Zambia.

PF MP LUBUSHA BETRAYS HIS FRIEND JAY BANDA FOR BUSINESS - MPUNDU
..Eastern Province MPs, You Are Special

Nkana lawmaker Binwell Mpundu is saddened with the amount of betrayal by his fellow colleague from Chipangali Andrew Lunusha.

Lubusha is a lawmaker under Patriotic Front (PF) ticket. He has been a close Friend of Petauke Central Constituency lawmaker Emmanuel Jay Banda who is on the run.

The Nkana lawmaker says Lubusha has betrayed his friend Banda for business a situation he describes as unfortunate.

Lubusha has joined the UPND campaign team in Petauke Central calling for the people there to correct the mistake they made in 2021 in voting for his friend Banda.

Mpundu who says he doesn't agree with the candidate picked by Tonse Alliance but will campaign because of his relationship with the incumbent Lawmaker, he expresses his displeasure and surprise saying:

"AMENO MAFUPA ZOONA .HON ANDREW LUBUSHA WHO IS JAY JAYS VERY CLOSE FRIEND OF MANY YEARS AND WHO IS A PF MP,TODAY SAYS THE PEOPLE OF PETAUKE HAVE A CHANCE TO REDEEM THEMSELVES BY VOTING FOR A UPND CANDIDATE AS MP.MEANING THEY MADE A MISTAKE TO VOTE FOR HIS FRIEND JAY JAY????

WHY WOULD WE SELL OUR RELATIONSHIPS AND DISOWN OUR FAMILY FOR SIMPLY PROTECTING OUR BUSINESSES. OK EASTERN PROVINCE MPS YOU ARE SPECIAL PEOPLE.

LCC SEIZES ASSORTED FOOD ITEMS AND ALCOHOL.

The Lusaka City Council has seized assorted food products and alcohol worth over K230,000 for being unfit for human consumption.

This move comes as part of an ongoing effort to enforce the Food Safety Act No. 7 of 2019 and the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011.

The operation was conducted between December, 2024 and January 2025 from Wholesales, Super Markets, Bars and Liquor Stores within the city.

The confiscated products were found to have violated several health and safety regulations.

These included the sale of expired goods, poor labelling practices, and compromised packaging such as dented or bulging containers, Poor Storage and Handling Conditions, Counterfeit or Smuggled Goods among other additional violations.

This is an on-going exercise and LCC is there to protect the public and we will continue to seize any products which are not complying with the food safety and Alcohol handling Act.

We therefore, urge the public to purchase food from reputable establishments and to report any food-related complaints to the Department of Public Health or through the public relations office.

Don’t involve Zambians in your suffering, political commentator tells PF

POLITICAL commentator Dillon Mayangwa says Zambians are not suffering as they are living comfortably since the UPND took office.

This came to light after former PF secretary general Davies Mwila recently stated that change of government is inevitable in 2026 as citizens were suffering.

In response to Mwila’s sentiments, Mayangwa said PF should not involve innocent Zambians in their suffering as the country was now free from poverty.

He said the current government is trying its best to ensure that every citizen gets a share of the national cake.

“Davies Mwila should correct his statement and say the PF cadres are suffering, they are no longer tormenting people in markets, he should say the slay queens are suffering, they are no longer going to offices to get tenders, he should say former ministers are suffering for going to court for the corruption they exhibited. Mwila should say Lungu is suffering because of his corruption,” said Mayangwa.

“Don’t involve ordinary Zambians into your suffering. Zambians are not suffering, Zambians are living comfortably. The current government is trying their level best. The Zambians are getting a piece of the cake.”

He advised that PF should stop condemning government and instead gather themselves and campaign and see if Zambians will listen to their lies.

“Mwila is living his own prophecy. PF needs to be strong and suffer the consequences of their mistakes,” added Mayangwa.

DR CONGO AND ZAMBIA REACH AGREEMENT TO DECONGEST KASUMBALESA BORDER POST: DAILY TRUCK LIMIT AND EXTENDED WORK HOURS INTRODUCED

By Pumba Kasongo

In a collaborative effort to ease congestion at the Kasumbalesa border post, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia have reached a significant agreement aimed at streamlining cross-border trade. As part of this new measure, a limit of 500 trucks will be allowed to cross into DR Congo daily. This cap is expected to reduce long queues and improve the efficiency of goods transportation between the two nations.

Additionally, the two countries have agreed to increase working hours at the border, further facilitating the movement of goods and reducing delays. This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of both governments to boost regional trade and improve border operations.

Authorities from both sides have expressed optimism that these measures will enhance logistics and promote economic growth by ensuring smoother and faster transit for traders and transporters.

ANDERSON MAZOKA: A PILLAR OF ZAMBIAN POLITICS AND VISIONARY LEADER

Anderson Kambela Mazoka, born on the 22nd of March, 1943, in Monze, Zambia, was a man of remarkable intellect and unwavering commitment to his nation. His life was a rich tapestry woven with threads of innovation, leadership, and political acumen.

Mazoka’s academic journey led him to Union College in New York, where he majored in mechanical engineering. His exceptional thesis project a wind tunnel built in a mere 10 weeks stood as a testament to his ingenuity and engineering prowess. This remarkable creation not only served the college for three decades but also captured the attention of the media, marking the beginning of a life destined to make an impact.

After a successful career in the private sector, Mazoka’s path took a decisive turn towards politics. In 1998, he founded the United Party for National Development (UPND), a political movement that would grow to become a significant force in Zambian politics. His vision for the UPND was clear.... to foster a nation that thrived on the principles of unity, development, and national progress.

The pinnacle of Mazoka’s political journey came in 2001 when he ran for the presidency of Zambia. In a tightly contested race, he emerged as a formidable opponent, securing 27.2% of the vote. Although he did not win, his campaign left an indelible mark on the political landscape of Zambia, highlighting his dedication to democratic values and the welfare of the Zambian people.

Mazoka’s legacy extends beyond his political endeavors. He was a family man, devoted to his wife, Mutinta Christine Mazoka, and a loving father to his children. His personal life was as rich and fulfilling as his public persona, characterized by warmth, generosity, and a deep sense of responsibility.

On the 24th of May, 2006, Zambia lost one of its most distinguished sons. Anderson Mazoka passed away due to kidney complications, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. His successor, Hakainde Hichilema, now carries the torch of the UPND, leading the party to new heights and honoring the foundation laid by Mazoka.

As we reflect on the life of Anderson Kambela Mazoka, we are reminded of the power of a single individual to effect change and inspire a nation. His story is not just one of political aspiration but of a profound commitment to the betterment of his country and its people. Mazoka’s memory lives on, a beacon of hope and a reminder that with courage and conviction, anything is possible.
