I'm excited to share our latest research published in Discover Social Science and Health: βFaith, health and well-being: a qualitative study exploring Islamic perspectives on physical activity and the role of Imams (scholars)β. This study explores how Islamic teachings, and the leadership of Imams can play a powerful role in promoting physical activity and improving health outcomes within Muslim communities. We highlight both the opportunities and the cultural barriers to engagement, especially among South Asian Muslim populations in the UK.
π Key insights:
β’Physical activity is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition
β’ Imams can be key health influencers through sermons and community action
β’ Barriers like modesty norms, facility access, and screen time are real but solvable
β’ Faith-based health promotion holds untapped potential for public health policy
