Today I completed a 12-month review of the impact of the work I have done for a Worcestershire-based company. In 12 months, I have more than doubled their enquiry rate! Over 52% (and possibly more) of their new clients are as a direct result of the work I've done for them. I am so delighted for them!

Lockdown has not been a slow period in my life. A house full of children certainly made completing work a challenge. I am so proud of my children though, they have done so well despite all the restrictions put on them. And I am so grateful to my husband, who has helped me juggle homeschooling, housework and paid work. There have been plenty of ups and downs, but looking back I can't believe how much I've accomplished! To date, I have: written an SEO audit, written a brand proposal and evaluation, achieved no.1 position on organic rankings for one of my clients, written and redrafted numerous menus, written and redrafted web pages, social media posts, written customer journeys and user personas and taken part in lots of Zoom meetings! Phew! And I thought 2020 was going to be a quiet year!

After 19 months of hard SEO work, I got my client to number 1 on Google's organic listings for a very competitive keyword. So thrilled! This is why is pays to keep going with SEO. Invest and play the long game and achieve greatness. My new business cards arrived today. I am absolutely delighted with the design and print of them. Although, since ordering the online, all the networking events I was due to attend (where I was planning on handing them out) have been cancelled! In the course of a few days, my client’s entire business has been rocked because of the new social distancing and working from home policy. This blog post shows how quickly businesses have been affected; divided into two halves, a few days can change everything. As businesses are rocked, what will the impact be on freelance SEO consultants and digital marketers? Larger businesses will probably have casualties, but hopefully enough capital to keep going. Having spent 8 years in the teaching profession in a past life, and knowing how much effort schools put into preparing young people for the work place, I was truly shocked by my experience over the last few months! On behalf of Just Catering, I helped advertise and interview candidates for a food technician role. I was completely bemused by how difficult it was to find successful candidates for such a exciting role in a dynamic, interesting industry. I know that hours of teaching and training go into the area of soft people skills, such as communication, in schools and institutions in our land. Why is there still such a large gap?

Having had a tough time recently trying to employ a food technician, we offer our insight as a prospective employer on how to go about applying soft people skills to ensure you stand a good chance of improving your employability.

I learned a lot this shoot, especially as the weather was very dull and really affected the natural light. We have to learn from these things though, otherwise how can we grow?

It has been such an exciting couple of weeks! Tomorrow, I help Carl Gauntlett at Just Catering Midlands host a series of interviews for a brand new technician in his expanding catering business. A few weeks ago we filled out tender documents as a direct consequence of the SEO work we had been doing on his website and he is currently in the process of renting a new unit in town.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with a new client who is launching a new brand in the new year and today I sorted out a Sitemap for him (including URLs) and general keyword analysis and edited a load of website copy.

Going to be breaking into the Christmas chocolates early tonight in celebration, I think. November has been incredibly exciting.
