Smyths Toys unveils 72 top toys for Christmas

This year’s picks for top Christmas toys encompass top licenses, trends and play patterns – and is now live on the retailer’s site
Smyths Toys’ pick for the top toys for Christmas 2026 include 72 products ranging from £10 to 109.99.

The list encompasses top licenses including Pokémon, KPop Demon Hunters, Toy Story Paw Patrol, Super Mario and Spider-Man, alongside time-tested play patterns and toy categories, such as role-play, plush, construction, slime, ride-ons, arts and crafts, and remote control.

The Entertainer has today revealed the top 10 toys it predicts will top Christmas wish lists this year, hand-picked by its expert toy-buying team.

From F1 and Pokémon to viral sensations, nostalgic favourites, and interactive toys - the list highlights some of the biggest trends expected to shape Christmas toys in 2026, with prices ranging from £18 to £200.

In the September issue of TnP, we sat down with DreamLand and ToyChamp CEO Koen Nolmans to learn more about the chains’ transformation following the integration of ToyChamp and Intertoys – and why partnership is central to the Benelux’s most prominent toy retail group.

Koen revealed the group will open 12 new stores and close seven to focus on more strategic locations, as well as consolidate warehouse operations and into a single facility in Bilzen, Belgium, and relocate its central headquarters to Bilzen from Genk.

Rachel Lowe strikes gold at Independent Toy Awards

Destination The Repair Shop, based on the much-loved BBC TV programme, wins Gold in the Licensed category

Rachel Lowe has won Gold at the 2026 Independent Toy Awards for her Destination The Repair Shop board game, based on the much-loved BBC TV programme The Repair Shop.

The family board game took Gold in the Licensed category, marking another milestone for Rachel, who first came to national attention when she appeared on the first series of BBC's Dragons' Den in 2005 with her original Destination board game.

More than 20 years later, she continues to develop the Destination brand, creating games based around destinations, entertainment properties and some of Britain's best-loved television programmes.

Destination The Repair Shop was created in partnership with TVADSWORK, which worked alongside Rachel to bring the project from initial concept through to the finished product. Based on the BBC TV programme, the game captures the warmth, nostalgia and storytelling that have made The Repair Shop so popular with viewers.

Players become Guardians of Heirlooms, travelling around the board in their own Repair Shop van, collecting treasured items and returning them to the famous barn to earn Repair Shop Stars.Along the way, players must negotiate traffic lights, manage their fuel and overcome unexpected obstacles as they race to return the precious heirlooms to the barn.

"Winning Gold for Destination The Repair Shop is incredibly special, particularly because the Independent Toy Awards are voted for by independent toy retailers,” said Rachel.

the LEGO Group reported earlier this week, earnings for the full year of 2025, achieving double-digit growth in revenue and operating profit. Demand for Lego products was high in all market groups and among both children and adults, driven by strong brand equity, innovative new products, strategic partnerships and excellent retail ex*****on. As a result, the Lego Group significantly outperformed the growing toy market and increased its market share. The company continued a high level of investments on strategic initiatives and capacity expansions to support growth.

Niels B. Christiansen, CEO, said: “We are very pleased with our record performance in 2025, building on last year’s success. Our innovative and extensive portfolio, combined with the strength of the Lego brand and an effective operating model, drove high demand. We delivered these results by being both creative in product innovation and efficient in operations, bringing Lego play experiences to more kids than ever before. As we continued to invest in future growth, we brought multi-year strategic investments to life and reached more than half renewable and recycled content in the materials we buy to make Lego bricks.”

Revenue grew 12 per cent to DKK 83.5 billion (GBP 9.64 billion) driven by sustained strong demand for the Lego portfolio leading to growth in all market groups, especially in Western Europe, Americas and CEEMEA. Consumer sales increased by 16 per cent, outpacing the overall toy market which grew 7 per cent.

Operating profit grew by 18 per cent to DKK 22.0 billion (GBP 2.54 billion) supported by high revenue and scale efficiencies. This was strengthened by ongoing productivity initiatives that enabled reinvestments in capacity expansions and strategic priorities to support short- and long-term growth, like sustainability, supply chain network and digital technology. Net profit, exceeding expectations, increased by 21 per cent to DKK 16.7 billion (GBP 1.92 billion).

Phillip has joined the Toymaster family. His shop Phillips Hobbies is based at Thorby Avenue in the Cambridgeshire town of March, specialises in die-cast collectables, model railways, plastic kits, and jigsaw puzzles.

George is looking forward to attending his first Toymaster Members Meeting. He told Toys n Playthings: “I’m looking forward to meeting other members and suppliers in Coventry later this month. The date almost coincides with my first anniversary of trading as a bricks-and-mortar store on September 28, so the timing couldn’t be better!”
