Raise a glass ….On this day in 1973 the CBGB Music Club was opened by Hilly Kristal in New York’s East Village in Manhattan. The club was previously a biker bar. The letters CBGB were for Country, BlueGrass, Blues, Kristal's original vision for the club. But CBGB soon emerged as a famed and iconic venue for punk rock and new wave bands and spawned bands including The Ramones, Dead Boys, Television, The Patti Smith Group, Blondie, Talking Heads .. to name but a few.. Heres our own tribute to Hilly with Local band Cavalier Attitude covering The Dead Boys “ Sonic Reducer” taken from the CBGB Tribute CD “This Ain’t No Disco No CBGB’s”.
