A LITTLE UPDATE…
I had some big aspirations for this account, didn’t I? well, life gets in the way! however, I think I’m just about ready to crawl back.
a lot has happened lately, but I’m ready to talk a little bit about it - as a lot of you know, I had an accident involving my laptop on the 23rd of January. after taking it to multiple specialists in my area, the news arrived that it was entirely non-recoverable - both the computer itself and the data on it. it really was the perfect storm - I’d had the busiest month of my entire career to date, and was really excited to fill you all in on many exciting sessions I’d carried out, but instead, I ended up losing about 70% of the work, as well as everything else I’ve recorded in the past 2+ years. I found out this news, I got into bed, and I gave up. i didn’t want to keep working.
as a lot of you also know, a few of my close friends gave me the idea of starting a gofundme to fund a replacement laptop. while this wouldn’t save the work as data recovery STARTED at £3000, it would mean I could get back in the game and continue to work on my productions. when I say I could never in a million years have expected the response I received, and I mean this with utmost sincerity. after removing the gofundme a week later, we had raised £900. this allowed me to purchase a new laptop, and gave me a second shot. over the next few weeks and months I will be re-recording a lot of the work that was not recoverable, as well as taking on some really exciting opportunities that would not have been possible without the generous support of my community. to my clients, my loved ones, and anyone in my corner, I extend my warmest gratitude.
in light of this hardship, I should state that in the past year I have learnt more about my trade than I ever thought I could. I’m the best version of myself that I have ever been, and I will not leave this bump in the road in the rear-view - it will provide foundation to my work. I will wear my gratitude in every project going forth and I will instil perseverance into the identity of everything that bears the name monolith.
more soon. with love, daniel x
