Since its creation by Jean Cuisenier in 1971, Ethnologie française has been a leading voice in research and a forum for contemporary debates in the domains of French ethnology and social anthropology and, over the past fifteen years, of European social anthropology. The journal also engages in dialogues with disciplines such as history and sociology. Whereas in its beginnings papers were primarily

concerned with the rural world, since the 1980s, its focus has broadened to investigate new topics devoted to the various aspects of contemporary societies around the globe.
