The option to reinstate dismissed Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, is open.

This was confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka last night.

Despite evidence of lapses in communication within the Office of the Prime Minister and SODELPA’s leader, Viliame Gavoka. Mr Rabuka has shouldered the blame for the decision to dismiss Mr Radrodro.

Meanwhile, a legal notice gazetted by the Fiji Government on Monday confirmed Mr Gavoka as Minister for Education.

After high school, Kia Pandya aspires to pursue studies in bio-chemical or biomedical engineering at an institution in Australia.

The Natabua High School student chalked up a total of 394 marks out of 400, which is the highest in the nation for the 2023 Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination.

The 18-year-old, who is from Vadodara, Baroda, and Gujerat in India, expressed surprise and happiness over her performance.

“It is more than a dream come true because I never expected such high marks, even though I was confident of doing well,” Kia said....

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mesake Waqa has revealed that people of interest in the two major drug busts in Nadi have gone off the grid.

This is after police got wind that some of their own had provided information to suspects of the pending raid.

“No charges have yet to be laid. We are not ruling out police officers, border agencies and transporters,” he said....

The People’s Alliance Party General Secretary Usaia Waqatairewa has confirmed that the Party’s Executive Council has received a written complaint on the alleged conduct of Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed the same last night. Without disclosing the contents of the complaint, Mr Waqatairewa said Ms Tabuya would now be referred to the Legal and National Disciplinary Sub-Committee as provide for under Section 27.5 of the People’s Alliance Party Constitution.

Ms Tabuya has been in the spotlight recently with allegations of infidelity....

In another surprising turn of events, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has taken responsibility for the dismissal of Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.

Mr Rabuka acknowledged that it was ultimately his decision but at the same breath expressed a willingness to reinstate Mr Radrodro.

However, the spotlight should really shine on Mr Rabuka’s advisors, particularly his Permanent Secretary Peter Wise and political advisor Adi Vuki Qionibaravi.

How remarkable indeed.

Fiji, today; is blessed to have Jioji Kotobalavu.

He served exemplarily as a permanent secretary, under no less than three prime ministers.



His wisdom, counsel, wealth of knowledge is almost encyclopedic. Fiji is fortunate to hear his words of caution as this “air of political uncertainty” encircles us all.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will assess a complaint against the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka, Fiji Airways and others for allegations of abuse of office and fraud relating to the Feast of the Tabernacle Israel trip last year.

The Fiji Rugby Union has extended their partnership with Fiji Kava for another three years.

The partnership was renewed yesterday at Rugby House in Suva.

As part of the renewed partnership, Fiji Kava will be working with Fiji Rugby to launch a unique co-branded kava product that will aid in player’s recovery from significant physical and mental challenges both on and off the field.

Democracy exists in the world, however, Fiji’s version is loosely based upon the same fundamental principles, with a Fijian twist.

We have allowed a government of two to rule the country for 16 years.

As the past government was taking the country to the brink of bankruptcy, warnings and good advice were cast aside by the people themselves as ‘a freebie’ society was enabled.

Debutant Ropate Rere, said it was the result of hard work after he was selected to be part of the Fiji Airways Sevens side for the Perth leg of the HSBC Sevens Series in the coming weekend.

The Ben Gollings coached side left Nadi International Airport yesterday morning for Western Australia for the three-day HSBC sevens from January 26-28.

The 24-year-old Bua farmer was emotional when his name was announced on Saturday at Lawaqa Park at the end of the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens.

“I was emotional when my name was announced. Everything that is happening right now is a fulfilment of the dream and all that I have been working hard for,” Rere said....

Hopes and dreams came to an end for Apakuki Tavodi, 35, on Saturday.

The Saweni, Lautoka, resident was allegedly stabbed last Thursday night and later died on Saturday.

According to police, Tavodi was stabbed by an unknown person who fled in a vehicle. Police are yet to identify and apprehend the suspect.

“But his hopes have been shattered, and it is painful to lose such a kind-hearted brother. Everybody around here misses him,” she added. ...
