📣 We will be livestreaming the Homegoing Celebration for the late Ratu Isimeli Naisoso Tukana tomorrow on Thursday 9th September, 2021.
The late Dr Tukana was born on 28th July, 1965 and passed on to glory on Saturday 4th September, 2021.
His Homegoing Celebration will begin with the memorial service at 7:30am at the family residence in Nasese after which he will be laid to rest at the Lovonilase Cemetery in Suva at 9am.
He was born to parents Mosese Tukana Bogidrau from Vusaratu Village in Natewa, Cakaudrove and mother; Apikali Rasova from Nabouwalu, Ono, Kadavu. He had two brothers and a sister.
The late Dr Tukana attended Draiba Primary School, Ratu Sukuna Memorial School and Marist Brothers High School for his primary and secondary education.
He attained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the then Fiji School of Medicine in Tamavua and his Masters in Public Health from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
The late Dr Tukana was one of the best in the medical field in Fiji and had extensive knowledge and a wealth of experience in the field of public health.
He took up several postings in the rural, urban and maritime areas and held the roles of Sub Divisional Medical Officer for Savusavu, Vunisea Hospital, Lakeba Hospital, Lautoka and Yasawa.
He was popularly known in the region as the National Advisor for Non-Communicable Disease and Head of Wellness.
He was highly regarded as one of Fiji’s health warriors given his commitment to combatting NCD in Fiji and the Pacific.
He retired in July last year as a Senior Divisional Medical Officer.
Early this year he joined the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine as the Director of the University’s new Bachelor of Medical Health Science (BMHS) Programme.
As a long-standing advocate of public health and preventative healthcare the late Dr Tukana was well qualified and experienced to lecture budding medical professionals.
During his childhood, he grew up in Browning Street, Raiwaqa.
He loved playing basketball and soccer and was nicknamed, “My Ball.”
He married his beloved wife Veniana Tukana who hails from Nakaugasele Village in Nakasaleka, Kadavu.
She is a Pharmacist by profession and they met at FSM while studying.
Together they have four beautiful daughters; twins Adi Bau Tukana and Apikali Tukana who are 27 years old, Ulamila Tukana who is 25 years old and Yasmin Tukana who is 22 years old.
The late Dr Tukana was born and raised according to the Methodist Church teachings however he converted to the Assemblies of God denomination in 2004.
He was the Qase ni Lotu at Calvary Temple in Samabula at the time of his passing.
He will forever be remembered as a strong man of faith, who was humble and dedicated to his calling which was to serve wholeheartedly in all aspects of life.
The late Dr Tukana was also an influential speaker, great teacher and a spiritual mentor to many youths that he crossed paths with.
His Homegoing Celebration will be livestreamed by the JIOJI Productions team in compliance with all COVID-safe protocols imposed by the Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji.
