The Saimaa Gesture is a 1981 film by Finnish directors Aki and Mika Kaurismäki. It is a documentary of three Finnish rock groups aboard the steamboat SS Heinävesi on their tour around Lake Saimaa

One line in the movie is “In Finland we have this thing called reilu meininki“ which translates to “fair play”.

“In Finland we have this thing called“ has since become an colloquially universal saying, where the last part is interchangeable to anything Finnish. This project aims to share the essence of the Finnish soul through informative and humanistic videos and performances.
