UUTUUSKIRJA! tekijä: Pope Puolitaival
Kaupoissa 21.3.2022 alkaen.
Pope Puolitaipaleen uusi kirja kääntää aivosi uuteen asentoon ja avaa reitin funk/jazzmusiikin luontevaan esittämiseen. Popen pedagogisesti tarkkaan miettimissä sävellyksissä on nautittava tunnelma ja samalla ne avaavat korvamme parempaan rytmin käsittelyyn ja soolojen rakentamiseen. Sinä pääset -kirjan kautta soittamaan kaikkein parhaiden muusikoiden kanssa. Solistinuottien lisäksi kirjan mukana tulee myös nuotit yhtyeelle ja soittoa voi harjoitella ”taustanauhan” päälle, jolloin kanssasi soittavat rumpali Teppo Mäkynen, basisti Antti Lötjönen ja pianisti Henri Mäntylä.

-kirja sisältää 10 funk/ jazz- sävellystä. Valtaosasta kappaleita löytyy yhtymäkohtia funk- ja jazz-perinteeseen, aina pastisseihin saakka. Kirjasta löytyy nuotit C-, Bb-, Eb- vireisille instrumenteille ja kompille. Kirjan välissä on erillinen nuottivihko myös yhtyeelle. Vaikeustasoltaan kappaleet sopivat hyvin musiikkiopiston perusopetukseen, m***a haastetta löytyy kyllä kaiken tasoisille rytmimusiikin harrastajille. Moni kappaleista perustuu pentatoniseen asteikkoon tai bluesasteikkoon, jotka ovatkin funkmusiikin peruspilareita. Teosten sävellajit on valittu puhallinsoittimia ajatellen: näin puhaltajan on helpompi syventyä fraseeraukseen ja päästä nopeammin musiikin ytimeen.

contains ten funk / jazz compositions. Most of them are inspired by the funk and jazz traditions, and some could even be called pastiches.
The aim of the book is to provide the reader with (great!) tunes that are pleasant to rehearse alone or with a band. Instead of just teaching to play tones and scales, I try to arouse the reader’s interest in how they are played. It is rhythm and phrasing that make the improvisation by top musicians sounds so good! I hope that the compositions encourage you to explore the fantastic world of rhythmics.
In the book you will find versions for instruments in C, Bb and Eb, and for the comping. The compositions fit well for basic education of music schools and conservatories but offer challenge also for other amateur musicians of other levels. The melodies are fairly easy, but the (written) solos are more challenging. Many of the compositions are based on the basic elements of funk, namely pentatonic scale and blues scale. Since the keys of the compositions are aimed for brass and reeds, it is easier for the player to get to the core of music and focus on phrasing.
You can play these compositions alone or with a band and change the structure of them freely. Some tunes have examples of scales to use in the beginning of improvisation. Other tunes contain more chords, and you can discuss them further with your teacher. Before creating your own improvisations, it might be worthwhile to sing or play the written solos. At first, you can skip the grace notes and ornaments if they seem too difficult. I have used phrasing notations that follow the general conventions of funk and jazz music.
