Juba City Council has suspended all contracted garbage collection and cleaning companies in the three blocks of Juba, Kator and Munuki, citing dissatisfaction with their services.

Garbage posses an huge threat to human health and business as well. Juba City Council is yet to review in the meantime contracts and decide on next steps to ensure a better and clean city.

For decades, communities in Torit, Budi, and Ikotos counties of South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state have been caught in a persistent cycle of intercommunal violence.

These entrenched divides are driven by cattle raids, revenge killings as well as seasonal cattle migration which brings with it competition over grazing areas and water resources.

Recently, the youth from the Kraal community have taken measures to end longstanding cattle-related conflicts with pastoral communities in the Kidepo Valley area, including the Didinga, Lotuko, and Logiragreeing.

This agreement was reached after a peace dialogue facilitated by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan’s (UNMISS) Civil Affairs Division in Chahari, Ikotos.

South Sudan is preparing to host the East African Community (EAC) monetary affairs committee meeting that will bring together all the governors of central banks in the region.

South Sudan’s central bank governor, James Alic Garang, announced that all the governors of the central banks from member states that form the regional body would start arriving in the country from April 26 and 27 2024 and will stay until May 3.

The Mombasa Monitoring Station-National Revenue Authority of South Sudan has clarified that only exporters and importers will be required to comply with the payment of $350 (Ksh46,000) levy being charged per unit to all goods destined to South Sudan and not clearing agents

In its response to a petition by clearing agents, the Authority said that a clearing agent should not use own funds to pay the service charge (levy).

South Sudan's National Elections Commission is set to begin voter registration in June 2024 as it embarks on its preparation for the forthcoming elections.

While addressing journalists at Pyramid Hotel on Tuesday, the chairperson of National Election Commission (NEC), Prof Abednego Akok, alluded that the law requires the commission to begin registration six months before the election period, which makes June the ideal month.

Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has called for the removal of Sections 54 and 55 of the National Security Service Act, which mandates security agents to arrest and detain citizens without a warrant.

Yakani's response follows a submission mad by the Chairperson of the Information Committee of the National Legislative Assembly, John Agany Deng argued that removing the National Security Service’s authority to arrest and detain citizens without a warrant as per sections 54 and 55 of the Act would leave the country vulnerable to instability.

From accident to Mob justice: A total of six people have been confirmed dead when a vehicle belonging to MTN South Sudan colluded with a motorcycle carrying three passengers along the Ngauro-Kapoeota South County road in Eastern Equatoria State on Sunday.

According to officials, the MTN vehicle was driving from Ngauro in Budi County to Kapoeta South and colluded with a boda-boda carrying three female passengers who died on the spot. The rider succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to the Kapoeta Civil Hospital. Meanwhile the occupants in the vehicle included the driver and MTN Staff who were later lynched by the angry mob and beaten to death including one Ugandan engineer working with MTN South Sudan.

Over nine people have been killed and 22 others wounded in an ambush in Duk County, Jonglei State carried out by Murle community youths who had fi****ms.

Jonglei State Minister of Information, Elizabeth Nyadak, confirmed this Friday that a suspected group of armed youth from the Murle community attacked some herdsmen at around 3 p.m. in Duk County on Thursday and escaped with over 2,000 cattle after a fierce clash with the cattle owners.

In a decree read on the state-owned television, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir dismissed Lt. Gen. Majak Akec Malok and replaced him with Lt. Gen Atem Marol Biar.

Rome Pilgrimage! A Diplomatic delegation from the South Sudanese parliamentary today departed for a pilgrimage taking place in Rome. The degation is led by Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba according to a confirmation from the first deputy speaker.

In his afternoon address to the August House in Juba on Thursday in an extraordinary sitting, Oyet Nathaniel, the First Deputy Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, said the speaker, accompanied by several MPs, had gone for a pilgrimage in Rome, Italy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said relations between Russia and South Sudan were developing "intensively".

Speaking at a meeting with the South Sudan President Salva Kiir in Moscow, Putin noted Russia was one of the first countries to recognise the sovereignty and independence of South Sudan.

"I must say we believe that we have a lot to do, primarily in the area of economic development," Putin added.

Kiir said he was happy for the warm welcome and stressed that he was in Moscow "as an opening for our long work in the future."

National Currency Name Changed! The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) on Monday approved the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Bill 2023 in its fourth and final reading, pending approval from the president to become a law.

Changkuoth Bichiok Reth, the chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Economic Planning, presented the bill which also changed the name of the South Sudanese Pound to the South Sudan Pound.

Local residents in Bori, a part of the southern Kajo Keji province, woke up to this surprise military activity.

Governor Phanuel Dumo said the sudden move led to heightened tensions. Some locals considered facing off with the Ugandan Army.

Bold Move: Guinea's military leader Mamady Doumbouya told the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday that the Western model of democracy does not work for Africa, as evidenced by a recent wave of coups.

Doumbouya took power in a coup in 2021, which was one of eight in West and Central Africa in the last three years. Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad and Gabon are also run by military officers.

The coups have been strongly condemned by the United Nations and Western powers such as the U.S. and France, which have urged democracy to be restored as soon as possible. Doumbouya criticised their response, saying it was racist and condescending.

Parliamentary Renumeration: The Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly members have experienced a humiliating delay of their salaries for a period of three months.

However, the chairperson of the parliamentary committee for information, John Agany, said the payments have not been instant because of the current restructuring of the salaries of government employees including the army and organized forces but promised this will be settled once the restructuring process is concluded.
