Happy International Children’s Book Day to all the book lovers whose childhoods have been—and continue to be—touched by the magic of fairytales! Celebrated since 1967, this year’s theme is all about the freedom of imagination, and at Gado, we imagine a world where every child can experience the incredible fairytales that filled our childhoods with joy and wonder, giving us the courage to become dreamers and storytellers ourselves. Let’s get more stories out there and keep the magic alive for the next generation.

Great books not only ignite curiosity but also expand our vocabulary, helping us think more clearly and express ourselves with greater confidence. Reading broadens our ability to communicate and articulate ideas, making us more effective in both our personal and professional lives.

For younger minds, exposure to literature opens doors to endless possibilities. By introducing children to the world of books, we give them the chance to fall in love with stories—and, in doing so, journey through time, live a thousand lives, and visit countless worlds. Stories spark imagination, revealing what is possible in their lives while embedding moral lessons, deeper values, and timeless wisdom through great folktales, fairy tales, and children's stories.

Project Akaakilee seeks to inspire and empower children, parents, and teachers by providing tools to cultivate a lifelong love of reading.

"Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, an award-winning novel from the esteemed Nigerian writer, explores Ifemelu’s journey through romance, belonging, and identity as she navigates her studies and blogging in the U.S. The novel delves into the challenges of reintegrating into her culture after adopting American habits and values during her time abroad. The story also follows her return to Nigeria, showing how her integration into Western culture affects how others perceive her. This novel offers a fresh and compelling perspective on return migration and identity."

"Mario Vargas Llosa, Nobel Prize-winner and author of The Time of the Hero, drew from personal experiences to craft the novel. He was recognized 'for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual’s resistance, revolt, and defeat.' As one of South America's most popular novelists, journalists, and essayists, his works provide insight into the nature of authority and offer a deeper understanding of the history and culture of South America.

Join us, we will continue exploring other authors who have shaped literature."

"The Caine Prize for African Writing is an annual literary award for the greatest short stories by African writers, regardless of where they live, published in the English language. The award grants great prestige, as those who win often go on to gain world acclaim, as well as a prize of $10,000.
The Caine Prize highlights the beauty and power of African literature, which is what we here at Gado aim to achieve.

Together, let's celebrate the brilliance of African storytelling and build a future where our literature leads the world stage.

"Great Expectations by Charles Dickens follows the life of a boy named Pip in a story filled with themes of wealth and poverty, love and rejection, and personal growth through moral awakening. Pip has great expectations but also a terrible flaw: he is quite ungrateful to the people who help him on his journey through life, which leads him to learn some of the tougher sides of reality. The story is also filled with a variety of eccentric and rich characters. This novel imparts important life lessons about the need for gratitude and valuing the people who support us."
