• In 1996, Joseph Weinberger’s Lil’ Joe Records bought the 2 Live Crew catalog during Luther Campbell’s bankruptcy proceedings. Weinberger argued that the music was “works for hire” and belonged to the label. However, Campbell and the heirs of Fresh Kid Ice and Brother Marquis contended that the group members were independent contractors and retained rights to their music.

Sergio Mendes was a Brazilian musician. His career took off with worldwide hits by his band Brasil ‘66. He had over 55 releases and was known for playing bossa nova, often crossed with funk.
