This week's episode is a global educators' call to action against racism and prejudice; inspired by a recent conversation with Nunana Nyomi and my own experiences in international schools.

As , and given the need to eradicate structural in our societies, the most effective way to do this arguably begins with how we select our teachers and educational leaders in our and and the cultures they create around them. With that in mind, my guest this week is Lawrence Alexander II, (), Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Carney, Sandoe & Associates. He's not just a stellar speaker, he is an educational activist who eloquently paints the picture about how change can and will happen. ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿

In this week’s episode, I met Peter Derby-Crook MBE, Director of Education at the Dipont Education group in China. In his work, he oversees 26 international curriculum centers and 3 K-12 schools - meaning his philosophy as an educator and leader reaches over 11,000 students and over 2,000 staff. Initially somewhat intimidated by his experience, long career and honour of an MBE from the Queen; I found Peter to be utterly down to earth, as well as kind, open, and deeply passionate about changing education forever. This week I meet Nell Byron and Edith Johnson, two former teachers who co-founded the UK organisation Be Her Lead. Their mission aims to empower women in teaching to build and raise the of in their schools. They run support and enrichment programmes that train classroom teachers to lead bespoke programmes for teens. Nell and Edith began to champion the needs of young women because they saw themes that worried them in their school context. I asked them about their journey to this point, to understand what they had experienced that made this equity-focused organisation their urgent mission. This week on the podcast we meet Ben Fugill and Tim Milner to talk about what the future of schools could look like -a huge subject- but our conversation zooms in on a model for a new school, that will have a holistic approach to learning - not rigid and focused on standardisation or testing but to expand the learning experience beyond the classroom, aiming to create inquisitive students in a caring and creative environment.

Editor’s note: Ben and Tim are friends as well as kindred educator spirits, and this makes for a fun, spirited and lively episode. Links below as always:

David Price( author of Open & Education Forward) is one of my genuine heroes in education and I'm so pleased to have been able to not just see his Learning Futures project in action, attending training at school in Sydney, where he and his wife Clare offered a practical ‘how-to’ guide - but to be able to podcast about it, too.

All in the "before times" when we could be in a room together ;)
