After having spent a large part of his life photographing the most important moments of his country's recent history, the Armenian artist Gagik Harutyunyan has lost the desire to photograph. Yet his images of Armenian independence from the Soviet Union and the war with Azerbaijan have helped revitalize art photography in this communist country. Through exclusive interviews, archival footage, and reflections on photography, this film offers a moving portrait of an artist who has helped trace the complex cultural and emotional aspects of a nation and its citizens.

Après avoir passé une grande partie de sa vie à photographier les moments les plus importants de l’histoire récente de son pays, l’artiste arménien Gagik Harutyunyan a perdu l’envie de photographier. Pourtant, ses images de l’indépendance arménienne à l’Union soviétique ou encore de la guerre avec l’Azerbaïdjan ont contribué à revitaliser la photographie d’art dans ce pays communiste. À travers des entrevues exclusives, des images d’archives et des réflexions sur la photographie, ce film offre un portrait émouvant de cet artiste qui a contribué à retracer les aspects culturels et émotionnels complexes d’une nation et de ses citoyens.
