Las Palmas de Gran Canaria remains the second safest city in Spain.

The capital of Gran Canaria remains one of the safest cities in the country, along with Zaragoza. In fact, in the quarter from April to June, global safety data have improved in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria compared to the period between January and March.

On average, and according to the records included in the statistical criminality portal of the Ministry of the Interior, citizens and visitors endured almost seven fewer crimes each day than in the first quarter. Between January and March, 601 more crimes were recorded than between April and June: it went from 5,308 to 4,707 (-11.3%).

Canary Islands in pre-alert for waves of up to 4 meters.

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for coastal “phenomena” throughout the archipelago from 7:00 am on Thursday, September 12.

This decision has been made in the face of the weather forecasts provided by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) which indicate northeast winds of 29 to 49 kilometers per hour, with local areas seeing gusts of up to 61 kilometers. This will generate strong tides increasing high seas between the islands with waves that can reach 2 meters high. In addition, higher waves will be generated on the north and west coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura that can reach 4 meters in height.

Missing Person Alert - 65-year-old woman, missing in Las Palmas

The SOS Desaparecidos association has activated an alert for the disappearance of a 65-year-old woman in Las Palmas who has been missing since September 10th.

According to the association, the missing person's name is María del Pilar Barrios Barrera, she has a normal complexion, is 1.53 meters tall, and has blond hair and blue eyes.

To provide any information about her possible whereabouts, you can contact, in addition to 1-1-2, the mobile phones 649.952.957 and 644.712.806, which the association has made available to citizens.

EXCLUSIVE - Local politician questions latest Servatur Group purchases in Puerto Rico.

The local politician, who wishes to remain anonymous, would like questions answered as to how one group can purchase so many tourist properties in one town.

“Not only do we not know or understand the financing of so many recent purchases and renovations in such a short space of time, I worry for the resort of Puerto Rico should the company (Servatur) ever get into financial difficulty”.

Prior to the recent takeovers of 5 more hotels in Puerto Rico (Rio Sol, Eden, Altamar, Altamadores, Buganvillas), the Servatur group already own 8 complexes in Puerto Rico, including the largest complex in town, the Puerto Azul.

“With their recent purchases, the group now owns 13 tourist accommodation properties in Puerto Rico. My worry is that should the group ever come into any financial difficulty, the closure of so many complexes would devastate tourism in the resort, the local economy and put many jobs at risk”
