👉YOU CAN TRANSFORM ANY SOUND INTO ANYTHING ELSE👈

We often go crazy trying to find out perfect sounds for our productions, but what if instead you turn the ones you have into what you need?

That's the beauty of sound design! It allows you to shape anything into anything, giving you ultimate freedom!

How are you implementing sound design in your creative process?

👉ANALOG GEAR, DO YOU NEED IT?👈

You've probably heard it a thousand times, analog is better than digital.

But does that mean you need to spend thousands on analog units?
Well, the quick answer to that, is no.

The main difference is that analog adds warmth, harmonics, mojo, however you want to call it.

Not only that, but analog desks sum the audio in a very different way than digital, because each channel leaks into the next one, creating slight phase differencies that seem to give the mix a feeling of having more "depth".

But here's the thing, how important is that?

Chances are 99,9% of people will never notice the difference between analog and digital anyways.

Furthermore, there's such good digital emulations of analog gear nowadays that would even trick some of the most experienced engineers. And that's why they use them too!

So, to sum it up, focus on writing first, focus on producing, because that's what's gonna grab people's attention.

Invest in those skills first, as they are at least a good 90% of your end result.

Nobody cares if a terrible production goes through the best units or analog emulation plugins of the world, it will still be just a terrible production.

People want to hear a great song and a great production, full stop.

Then, once your production skills are 100% solid, that's when you can start adding some analog mojo!

Hope this brings some clarity, talk soon💪

"I NEED MORE GEAR", "I NEED MORE PLUGINS" and "MAKING MUSIC IS TOO EXPENSIVE" are the most common misconceptions I ear regularly. 🤦‍♂️

But what do you really need to make music? What do you really need to invest in and what isn't necessary instead?👇

You can have the best studio on earth, but if you can't compose, arrange, and mix, it's not gonna work, trust me.

Nowadays you could literally make professional music and make it your main source or income with just a laptop, an audio card and a pair of headphones (and a daw) if you really wanted to🎧

There's a ton of people doing it, and that's exactly what I do too, because even if I wanted, a studio wouldn't be ideal for me because of my traveling lifestyle (can't bring a whole room on a plane with me).😂

That's why when I hear producers saying things like "I lack a studio", "I lack the plugins" or anything similar, I tell them "no, my friend, the only thing you lack is the right knowledge and right the mindset".🤷‍♂️

And of course if then you want to spend in expensive synths and outboard gear once you are already making money from your laptop, that's up to you, but why making harder for yourself at the beginning spending all that cash in things you might pretty much do well without?

The best investment you can make will always be in yourself, in your knowledge and in your skills.

Hope this helps✌️

I've just found this old picture from the days I was still a student in music production and audio engineering and i couldn't help but comparing where I am today to where I was back then👇

Back then:

❌I always felt my music wasn't good enough to compete with others in the industry;

❌I didn't have any structure whatsoever for making tracks and making them consistently;

❌I was not making a single cent with my music even though I was spending most of my days grinding and I had access to all the plugins one might need and to some of the best analog desks in the world. I had multiple high end professional studios at my disposal but I felt stuck as if I didn't.

Today:

✅I am confident about my music and I don't waste time in self doubt, procrastinating and feeling demotivated;

✅I have a solid process in place that allows me to finish captivating tracks consistently;

✅I built a steady passive income through my music which I wouldn't even imagine possible back in the days, together with my active income from offering premium music production and audio engineering services to people and businesses in need.

All I need to work nowadays is a laptop, an audio card and a pair of headphones (a midi keyboard can help); a few hours of work a day usually do the trick.

So, what made the real difference there for me?🤔

Back then, I had all the knowledge possible about how to create professional music.
After all I studied at one of the best audio engineering schools in the world.

So why wasn't I having the results I have today?👇

Because first of all I hadn't been trained to apply that knowledge. I hadn't been fully trained to listen and to understand how to use my ears.👂

Yes, there were some great teachers who would truly try to get us to listen and learn how to percieve sound, but it's hard to train each single individual when you have a whole group of people and a program to follow.

To make it clearer, you could literally have all the knowledge in the world, and still have pretty mediocre results if you can't apply that knowledge.

That's exactly where I was.

For example, you might have seen thoudands of videos online about compression, telling you what settings to use on each different instrument, but how many really taught you how to really listen to compression happening?

How many really taught you how to make intelligent decisions depending on each individual situation you come across? 🙅‍♂️

Not only I hadn't been fully trained on how to listen, but my mindset was definitely broken.🤯

I didn't have a motivating vision for myself, I didn't have a way of keeping myself on track every day and I would lose my direction easily.

And of course, there was still some kind of knowledge I didn't have, the stuff you hardly see anywhere online and on youtube videos (and even in pro schools) that I had to learn by investing in private mentors along the way👨‍🏫

But here I am, today, doing what I love.

And if I made it, it means that anyone else, with the right mindset, with the right training and with the right process can make it too💪

What is inspiration?🧞

If I asked you to go and bring me back a jar of inspiration, you would treat me like I just went crazy.🤷‍♂️

Then why do people think about it as of something you need to refill yourself with?

And why those same people are often struggling with inspiration?
Because it's not a thing, it's a process.

It's an internal state of being which we can access through very precise ways and methods.

The problem is, our society doesn't really teach us how to deal with our internal states; they teach us any kind of useless things, but what really matters, it's hardly taught.

In any case, the first thing that's important to learn, is understanding where our inspiration naturally wants to flow and allowing it to do that, instead of resisting it.🌊

Sometimes for example we might really want to finish the chorus of a track, but our inspiration wants to go and create a new chord progression for the verse and so we try to control the process and this way we create resistance.

And resistance creates stress which will in turn rob us of all inspiration.🚫

If we learn to access our inspiration, "direct" it properly and flow with it, instead of going against it, the creative process will just become as it was always supposed to be.

Effortless.🏄‍♂️

Let me know if this helps!
