Today marks a year since Russia illegally invaded Ukraine. While everyday life has been transformed for Ukrainians on many different levels, Helen Fitzwilliam explores how, through invasion, Russia has sought to make not only land gains but also to erase Ukraine’s artistic patrimony, history and language. Some of Ukraine’s cultural creators have taken up arms while others battle Russia through poetry, films and concerts. Below is just some of the artwork created to document the conflict, or pieces which have been moved abroad to protect them from Putin’s war and Russia’s attempts to erase Ukrainian culture.
