FM Badr Abdelatty discusses developments in Gaza, Sudan over phone with Saudi, Jordanian, Turkish counterparts

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday held phone conversations with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss the latest developments in Gaza and Sudan.

On Gaza, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to uphold the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement, emphasizing the importance of fully implementing all its provisions to ensure an end to the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

He highlighted the need to advance to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which focuses on political, development, and humanitarian aspects.

The foreign minister also reviewed Egypt’s preparations for the international conference on the reconstruction, early recovery, and development in Gaza, scheduled to be held in Cairo during November. He described the conference as a key step in mobilizing international support for rebuilding Gaza and achieving stability.

On Sudan, the foreign minister reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for the country’s unity, stability, and national institutions.

He highlighted Egypt’s role within the Quartet Mechanism on Sudan to support ceasefire efforts and national reconciliation.

Abdelatty underscored the importance of regional and international coordination to achieve a comprehensive humanitarian truce that paves the way for a political process, while ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief throughout Sudan.

The foreign minister emphasized Egypt’s condemnation of recent blatant violations in El-Fasher city, calling for an immediate end to them.

He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continuing humanitarian and relief support to the Sudanese people.

Development must be treated as human right: PM Mostafa Madbouly at Doha social development summit

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reaffirmed on Tuesday Egypt’s commitment to the principle of “common but differentiated responsibility” as a cornerstone for achieving development, stressing that the right to development is a human right.

Madbouly’s remarks came during his participation, on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.

Madbouly said that the summit is taking place amid exceptionally complex circumstances, with the world and the region witnessing numerous crises and challenges that hinder efforts to achieve social and economic development.

He noted that the Egyptian government’s development path is driven by a clear human-centred philosophy outlined in the 2014 Constitution and embodied in Egypt Vision 2030.

Despite unprecedented economic and geopolitical challenges, he noted, Egypt has achieved significant progress through investment in social infrastructure and the strengthening of social protection systems.

Madbouly further highlighted the major transformation in Egypt’s cash support framework, with the Takaful and Karama programme now established as a legal right under the 2025 Social Security Law.

The programme provides monthly financial support to more than seven million families nationwide, he explained.

According to Madbouly, Egypt also launched one of the largest development initiatives in its modern history — the “Haya Karima” initiative, which targets upgrading infrastructure and services in rural communities.

The Egyptian PM highlighted the launch of a strategic financial system focused on shifting from welfare to productivity and economic empowerment by expanding income-generation opportunities, vocational training, and financing for small and medium-sized enterprises.

He added that the state has strengthened protection schemes for persons with disabilities and the elderly through new legislation and services being introduced, as part of its commitment to a comprehensive, family-based approach.

In public health, Egypt has eliminated the hepatitis C virus through the 100 Million Seha initiative, while also expanding the Universal Health Insurance Project, Madbouly said.

In addition, the Egyptian PM pointed out that numerous educational programs, early childhood development initiatives, entrepreneurship training, financial inclusion efforts, and savings and lending programs for women, especially female breadwinners, have been implemented.

On poverty, Madbouly said that Egypt is applying a comprehensive approach to eradicate poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including tackling the challenges of multidimensional poverty.

A national framework for social protection is also being developed as a key modern enabler of sustainable and inclusive growth, the Egyptian PM added.

This framework focuses, he revealed, on investment in human capital, strengthening responses to emerging shocks and risks including those associated with environmental challenges, particularly climate change, and relying on flexible and adaptive digital systems.

The framework also links protection with development, economic empowerment, and the enhancement of the care economy and decent work, especially for women, Madbouly noted.

He recalled the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action issued at the First World Summit for Social Development in 1995, with its three pillars; achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all.

Madbouly said that this has laid the foundations for addressing social development issues, especially considering the situations of developing countries, resolving the debt crisis, mobilizing financing, and transferring and localizing technology.

He voiced confidence that the summit will meet Member States’ ambitions on social development, turning collective international visions in this area into genuine and impactful action.

The Doha summit is taking place from 4 to 6 November, with wide participation from world leaders and heads of government.

Egypt's financial system remains resilient despite global challenges: CBE

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) confirmed on Tuesday that Egypt’s financial system remains stable and resilient, with both the banking and non-banking sectors continuing to play a key role in financing the economy and attracting stable funding sources despite global economic and geopolitical challenges.

In its Financial Stability Report, the CBE said the financial stability index recorded a notable improvement, supported by stronger macroeconomic indicators, stable exchange rates, and the success of monetary policy in containing inflationary pressures while attracting record levels of foreign investment.

The report highlighted that the banking sector continues to provide foreign currency financing with lower exposure to systemic risks from sudden capital outflows.

Egypt’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $47.8 billion in March 2025, sufficient to cover short-term external debt and over six months of imports, driven by higher non-oil exports, tourism revenues, remittances, and long-term foreign direct investment.

According to the report, the banking sector remains the backbone of financial stability, maintaining strong capital and liquidity indicators well above regulatory requirements.

The capital adequacy ratio reached 18.3 percent in March 2025, compared to a regulatory minimum of 12.5 percent, while liquidity ratios stood at 37.1 percent in local currency and 73.7 percent in foreign currency, exceeding required levels.

The sector’s profitability also improved, with returns on average assets and equity reaching 2.6 percent and 39 percent, respectively, during fiscal year 2024.

Total banking assets grew by 45.8 percent, representing 93.5 percent of total financial system assets and 125.4 percent of nominal GDP, while deposits increased by 25.3 percent, mainly supported by stable household savings.

On fiscal performance, the CBE noted that the government continues to achieve fiscal discipline targets and diversify local financing sources, reducing risks linked to public finances.

The share of government securities in total banking assets declined, while foreign investors’ holdings of treasury bills rose to 44.7 percent in March 2025.

The non-banking financial sector also recorded solid growth, as total assets increased by 22.7 percent in 2024, representing 6.5 percent of total financial system assets.

The sector introduced new financial products and services and began applying Basel III standards to enhance risk management. The EGX30 index gained 19.5 percent in 2024 and continued to rise into early 2025.

Joint stress tests conducted by the CBE and the Financial Regulatory Authority confirmed the strength and resilience of the financial system, showing low to moderate exposure to capital and liquidity risks even under adverse conditions.

The report also highlighted progress in financial inclusion, which rose to 74.5 percent in March 2025, alongside strong momentum in digital transformation, as mobile wallet accounts increased by 26 percent YoY.

For the first time, the CBE published its macroprudential policy framework, outlining its strategy to strengthen coordination between monetary, fiscal, and macroprudential policies and to enhance transparency in achieving long-term financial stability in Egypt.

SCZONE Signs Contract for Korean "H&L" Ready-Made Garments Project with Investments of $12 Million as 1st Korean Investment in West Qantara (VIDEO)

Mr. Walid Jamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), signed a contract on Tuesday morning - at the Authority's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital - with the Korean company (H&L EGYPT APPAREL) for the industrial project to manufacture ready-made and sportswear garments.

This is the first Korean project in the West Qantara industrial zone affiliated with the SCZONE Authority.

The factory, which is planned to be built on an area of 40,000 square meters, will have investments amounting to $12 million (equivalent to 570 million Egyptian pounds) and will provide approximately 2,000 direct job opportunities.

The contract was signed by Mr. Sung Joon Lee, CEO of the Korean company, in the presence of a number of executive leaders from both sides.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the Chairman of the SCZONE stated that the Authority is moving steadily towards localizing and deepening industry by attracting the textiles and ready-made garments sector to the West Qantara industrial zone.

He indicated that this approach contributes to reducing production costs by relying on raw materials, products, and logistical services available within the zone instead of importing them.

Mr.Jamal El-Din affirmed that these efforts are in line with the national narrative for economic development, which aims to support economic reform and enhance the shift towards productive and export-oriented sectors.

He also explained that the SCZONE is working to strengthen partnerships with the private sector to attract more investments in a number of targeted sectors.

In the same context, Mr. Walid Jamal El-Din explained that there is increasing interest from various countries around the world in investing in the SCZONE, especially in the West Qantara area, following the completion of the first phase of its development and the inauguration of the first two projects there, as well as the laying of the foundation stone for several other industrial projects.

This confirms global confidence in the investment environment and business performance indicators of the SCZONE authority.

The total number of projects in the West Qantara Industrial Zone has increased to 45 projects, covering a total area of 2,837,400 square meters, with total investments of $1.1805 billion, creating 62,165 direct job opportunities.

It is worth noting that H&L, a Korean company, is one of the leading global companies in the field of sportswear manufacturing. Founded in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, it has a strategic partnership with the American company Outerstuff, which specializes in designing and distributing licensed sportswear for major global leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, and NCAA.

H&L also boasts over 40 years of experience in manufacturing and exporting ready-made garments.

FM Badr Abdelatty & UK national security adviser hold second call in a week on Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation on Tuesday with the UK Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell—the second in a week—as part of regular consultations between Cairo and London to exchange views and assessments on regional developments.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused primarily on the Palestinian cause and the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip.

Abdelatty underscored the importance of fully implementing the agreement to end Israel's war on Gaza, as well as the immediate initiation of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

He also emphasized the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance continues to flow into the enclave in volumes commensurate with the population’s immense needs.

Egypt’s top diplomat briefed Powell on Egypt’s preparations to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza later this month, inviting the United Kingdom and the wider international community to play an active role in supporting the process and alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The two officials also discussed bilateral relations, affirming their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in various areas, including economic, trade, and investment ties.

Both sides agreed on the importance of advancing relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom to new levels that serve the interests and aspirations of the two nations.

Abdelatty and Powell’s call comes just a week after their previous one, underscoring the pace and depth of ongoing coordination between Egypt and the UK on regional crises.

During that earlier call, alongside discussing the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty and Powell addressed the rapidly deteriorating situation in Sudan, particularly in the city of El-Fasher, following the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of the Sudanese army’s last major stronghold in North Darfur.

At the time, Abdelatty urged the pursuit of a comprehensive political settlement in line with the outcomes of the recent Sudan Quartet meeting in Washington, emphasizing the need to preserve Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

This week’s follow-up call builds on that momentum, reflecting Cairo and London’s close coordination on both the Palestinian and Sudanese files, two issues central to regional stability, as well as their shared interest in advancing bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and security domains.

Grand Egyptian Museum opens its doors to the public

After a year of anticipation since its limited debut, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has now fully opened to the public, completing its transition from a partial pilot launch in October 2024 into a world-class cultural landmark in 2025.

The earlier soft launch allowed visitors to see only parts of the museum, the Grand Hall, the monumental staircase, and select thematic galleries.

This week marks Egypt’s full unveiling of the Grand Egyptian Museum, featuring more than 100,000 artefacts spanning the nation’s ancient civilization.

The display includes the complete Tutankhamun collection and King Khufu’s Solar Boat, relocated from beside the Great Pyramid to a purpose-built conservation hall.

+How to visit: hours, access, pricing

Unlike the historic Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square or other national collections, the GEM operates as a fully digital, timed-entry facility.

Opening hours are structured but extensive: the complex, including gardens, cafés, plazas, and shops, runs from 8:30am to 7pm daily, extending to 10pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Galleries and exhibition halls are open from 9am to 6pm, and until 9pm on those two late-night days.

Last entry is one hour before closing: 5pm on regular days and 8pm on extended evenings.

Tickets can be purchased only online through the museum’s official website (visit-gem.com).

Admission for Egyptians is set at EGP 200 for adults and EGP 100 for children, students, and seniors.

Expatriates living in Egypt pay EGP 730 for adults and EGP 370 for children and students, while Arab and other foreign visitors are charged EGP 1,450 for adults and EGP 730 for children and students.

Guided tours in English and Arabic can be booked online, while private tours in other languages are available on request via [email protected].

Corporate, travel-agency, and school bookings are handled through the same address or [email protected].

+Who gets in for free

The museum introduces one of the region’s most inclusive admission systems, aimed at promoting educational and professional access.

Free entry is granted all week to children under six, visitors with disabilities, Egyptian tour guides accompanying groups, and members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

A second tier of free passes, available on weekdays and excluding public holidays, applies to military veterans, families of national martyrs, employees of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and accredited journalists (with prior coordination).

Students and academics at public universities studying history, civilization, heritage, tourism, architecture, fine arts, applied arts, or arts education also qualify, as do pupils at public primary and preparatory schools or orphans, provided their institutions apply one month in advance.

Foreign spouses of Egyptians and their children may purchase tickets at the Egyptian rate, subject to proof of relationship, a policy designed to accommodate mixed families living in Egypt.

+Inside the world’s newest mega-museum

The initial visitor route includes the Grand Hall, outdoor plazas, retail and restaurant areas, and several galleries.

The museum’s conservation laboratories, visible behind glass, allow visitors to watch restoration work in progress, linking Egypt’s heritage to modern science.

Landscaped gardens lead to terraces with panoramic views of the Pyramids, a design meant to blend archaeological wonder with accessibility and leisure.

Parking is available on site for a fee, and electric bus links are planned to connect the museum with nearby attractions.

Food and drinks are sold inside the complex, though outside refreshments are not allowed.

+Capturing memories — without the flash

Photography rules at the GEM aim to balance visitor freedom with preservation needs.

Guests may take photos and videos for personal use on phones or cameras, but must avoid flash, tripods, selfie sticks, drones, and live streaming.

All photography is limited to non-commercial purposes; commercial shoots require prior written approval.

“All tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable,” the museum’s terms read, part of efforts to ensure careful crowd management during the first months of full operation.

65th "Zad Al-Ezza" humanitarian aid convoy enters Gaza Strip

Humanitarian aid trucks began entering Gaza on Tuesday, through the side gate of Rafah Border Crossing in North Sinai toward Al-Ouja and Karm Abou Salem crossings, as part of the 65th convoy of "Zad Al-Ezza - From Egypt to Gaza.”

The convoy is carrying various relief materials for the Palestinian people in the war-devastated Gaza Strip.

A reliable source at Rafah Border Crossing said, the convoy includes fuel trucks, medical supplies and food baskets, noting that the trucks are inspected by Israeli occupation troops at the Al-Ouja and Karm Abou Salem crossings before entering Gaza.

The Israeli occupation forces had closed all crossings to the Gaza Strip on March 2, following the end of the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire agreement and the failure to reach a deal to extend it.

The occupation army violated the truce with heavy airstrikes on March 18, resuming ground incursions into various parts of Gaza from which it had previously withdrawn. It also prevented the entry of humanitarian aid, fuel and shelter materials for displaced Palestinians whose homes were destroyed during the war on Gaza, refusing to allow in heavy machinery needed for debris removal and reconstruction.

In May, the occupation forces allowed in limited quantities of aid, insufficient to meet the minimum needs of Gaza’s residents, under a mechanism implemented in coordination with a US security company - a mechanism rejected by the United Nations and relief organizations, including UNRWA, for violating established international procedures.

The Israeli occupation army announced a “temporary truce” of 10 hours daily, starting Sunday, July 27, 2025, suspending military operations in certain areas of Gaza to allow humanitarian aid delivery, while mediators (Egypt, Qatar, and the US ) continued efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal.

These mediation efforts culminated at dawn on October 9, 2025, in an agreement between Hamas and Israel on the first phase of a ceasefire plan, based on a proposal by US President Donald Trump. The agreement, clinched through Egyptian, US and Qatari mediation, with Turkish support, was later endorsed during Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania el Mashat said on Monday that under Egypt’s National Narrative for Economic Development, the country aims to shift toward a new, private sector–led economic model focused on production and exports.

She added that the goal is to increase private investments to 66% of total investments and their share in the gross domestic product (GDP) to 82% by 2030.

Speaking via video at the second Cairo Forum organized by the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, Mashat noted that public investment governance seeks to redirect capital toward health, education, and private sector stimulation.

She also reaffirmed that Egypt is also expanding private participation through innovative risk-reduction tools in partnership with development finance institutions, including investment guarantee mechanisms with the World Bank, the European Union (EU), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Egypt announces new global oil, gas exploration bid in Red Sea: Petroleum Minister

Petroleum Ministry launched on Tuesday a new international bid round for oil and gas exploration in four Red Sea blocks, part of efforts to attract fresh foreign investment into its energy sector, according to an official statement.

The tender, announced by Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy during the "ADIPEC 2025" conference in Abu Dhabi, will be offered by the state-run South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope) through the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) digital platform.

Badawy said that for the first time, Egypt will apply a profitability-based production-sharing model (R-Factor) designed to offer more flexible and competitive terms to global energy companies, particularly in deepwater and frontier areas.

“The new bid round reflects Egypt’s commitment to creating an attractive investment environment and maximising the country’s oil and gas potential,” Badawy said.

He added that the Red Sea remains one of Egypt’s most promising new exploration frontiers, with several blocks showing high potential for future discoveries that could boost output and enhance energy security.

Health minister & Albanian president discuss prospects for health cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed on Tuesday the importance of exchanging expertise and successful experiences with Albania as a key pillar for enhancing the quality of healthcare services and achieving shared health security.

He expressed Egypt’s keenness to deepen cooperation with Albania in areas including medical staff training, digital transformation of healthcare services, health policy, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

This came during Abdel Ghaffar’s meeting with Albanian President Bajram Begaj to discuss ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in the health sector, in the presence of Albanian Ambassador to Egypt Sami Shiba.

Abdel Ghaffar welcomed the Albanian president, noting the ministry’s commitment to expediting the finalization of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ health ministries.

He said the agreement would pave the way for joint executive programs that benefit both peoples and further strengthen Egyptian-Albanian relations in the health sector.

He reviewed the ministry’s efforts in addressing the repercussions of the Palestinian crisis, receiving and treating the injured from Gaza, and providing urgent medical services in Egyptian hospitals.

Abdel Ghaffar affirmed that Egypt responded to the crisis with full preparedness by declaring a state of emergency across all health facilities.

He said medical teams, medicines, and supplies were deployed, and the medical evacuation system was reinforced to transfer critical cases to hospitals in North Sinai, Cairo, and the Delta governorates.

For his part, President Begaj expressed appreciation for Egypt’s advanced expertise in healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

He noted that cooperation with Egypt holds strategic importance for Albania, given Egypt’s distinguished capabilities and modern health infrastructure.

He voiced Albania’s aspiration to establish a sustainable health partnership founded on collaboration and knowledge exchange, particularly in training programs and the development of health insurance systems.

He also praised Egypt’s notable progress in the health sector in recent years.

Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the meeting discussed cooperation in combating communicable and non-communicable diseases and ways to benefit from Egypt’s experience in implementing the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).

It also covered the digital transformation of medical services, training programs for Albanian medical staff, and cooperation in vaccine and biological product manufacturing, as well as the localization of pharmaceutical industries.

He added that both sides stressed the importance of forming a joint working group to follow up on the implementation of agreements.

The group will also work to activate cooperation programs in the fields of health emergencies, public health, primary care, and scientific research, he said.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the meeting aligns with the directives of the political leadership to strengthen international health partnerships.

He said these efforts aim to enhance the quality of healthcare services and promote sustainable development in both countries.
