Our story
For close to 30 years, every Thursday morning Al-Ahram Weekly has been finding its place on the newsstands. An English weekly newspaper put together by essentially a group of Egyptian journalists, who are assisted by a group of professional English native speaking editors, Al-Ahram Weekly put out its first issue on the week former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was pulling out his troops from Kuwait that he had invaded in the summer of 1990. Ever since, this paper has provided its readers with an in-depth coverage of major political stories that has been unfolding in Egypt, the region and the world. The Palestinian Intifada, Middle East Peace talks, the war on Iraq, the January Revolution and the 30 June Demonstrations were some of the leading stories that Al-Ahram Weekly covered and explained. Alongside with its extensive political coverage and commentaries, Al-Ahram Weekly provides economic, social and cultural stories that offer the reader a contextualised read of the news development. As journalism found its way online, Al-Ahram Weekly launched its website and acted to upload its rich archive on it along with the new issues. Most recently, the paper opted to overhaul this website and is currently putting out its weekly coverage at the website of its sister younger service Ahram Online that was launched ten years ago by some of Al-Ahram Weekly’s most seasoned editors and journalists. The new website should be coming out soon with a reader-friendly and interactive interface. Please follow our stories and share your comments.
