Egypt showcases locally-produced ST100, ST500 armoured vehicles at Int'l Airshow 2024

The three-day Egypt International Airshow 2024 saw the display of Egypt's locally-produced ST100 and ST500 armoured vehicles-- which drew considerable attention during the event's inauguration on Tuesday.

Both vehicles were highlighted during the event, which featured over 300 aviation and aerospace companies from more than 100 countries.

The ST100 and ST500, built by the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production at the 200 Military Factory, are crafted to resist mines and ambushes.

Produced through international collaboration, the ST100 and ST500 feature around 50 percent locally sourced components, with their design, assembly, and implementation — including electronics and remote-controlled combat tower — entirely Egyptian.

According to the Arab Security and Defence website, the ST100 armoured vehicle is available in 10 different versions and is designed for multiple missions. It can be configured as needed for various roles, including as an armoured personnel carrier for attack and intervention missions, an ambulance capable of transporting four people, and for reconnaissance, surveillance, command, and control operations.

The vehicle also functions as an air defence unit equipped with anti-aircraft missiles or artillery. It is also a tank-hunting vehicle equipped with anti-armour guided missiles (Tank Hunter), a rocket Launcher, a mortar carrier, a carrier of precision-guided surface-to-surface anti-armour/personnel missiles, precision attack missile carrier, and communication/electronic warfare vehicle.

With a weight of 14.5 tons and a maximum payload capacity of 18 tons, the ST100 has dimensions of 6.4 meters in length, 2.6 meters in width, and 3.8 meters in height. It has a crew of five, including the driver and commander, with three additional crew members for the patrol version, and up to eight for the attack and intervention version. The vehicle's maximum speed is 115 km/h.

One of the vehicle's key features is its unique V-shaped design on the bottom, which is intended to counter explosive devices and mines. It has a solid chassis and is reinforced with high-explosion-resistant materials in the lower section.

In the event of a mine or explosive device attack, the crew compartment is designed to separate from the rest of the vehicle to ensure crew survival. It can be mounted on another chassis if needed.

The seats for personnel are equipped with shock-absorption technology to reduce the impact of IED and mine explosions, and the engine can be easily removed and replaced to facilitate maintenance or repairs in the theatre of operations.

The vehicle is also equipped with a camouflage net to minimise radar and thermal signatures and features an integrated combat and protection system that can be customised based on needs. This system may include:

An electronic obstruction and jamming system that operates across various communication bands and wireless networks to neutralise remote IED detonation mechanisms. This system was developed collaboratively by IMUT and the Ministry of Military Production, with expertise from Swiss specialists in electronic countermeasures.
A French system designed to detect and identify firing sources through acoustic signatures. This system guides the remote-controlled automatic weapon station to target and neutralise snipers and armed elements during urban and confined-area combat.
An interactive defence system with sensors for detecting and warning against lasers and anti-tank missiles. It includes thermal and electro-optical jamming, smoke screens, and aerosol projectiles that obstruct electro-optical, thermal, laser, and radar guidance. These projectiles contain burning red phosphorus and aluminum coated with fiberglass, along with brass particles (30 percent zinc and 70 percent copper).
The vehicle can be armed with a multiple machine gun calibre 7.62 x 51 mm, a heavy machine gun caliber 12.7 x 99 mm, or a 40 mm gr***de launcher, all of which can be mounted on a remote-controlled weapon station.

Both the defence system and the automatic machine gun station are operated by a digital battle management system, which can be added to the armoured vehicle, particularly in its specialised combat versions. These versions can also be equipped with anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, or mortars.

The armoured vehicle is equipped with a series of cameras and thermal sensors to assist the driver and relay a comprehensive view of the surroundings to the crew’s internal screens, enhancing situational awareness in operational areas.

Additionally, the vehicle features a US-made Cummins ISL turbocharged 6-cylinder 8900cc diesel engine, delivering 400 horsepower at 2100 rpm, paired with a ZF EcoLife 6-speed automatic transmission from ZF Friedrichshafen, Germany.

With added armour, the vehicle's bullet protection level can reach Stanag 4, enabling it to withstand impacts from 14.5 * 114 mm ammunition.

1st phase of the Egypt Digital Industrial Platform launched

The Ministry of Trade and Industry launched the first phase of the Egypt Digital Industrial Platform on Sunday in cooperation with the Financial Institutions Operation Technology Company (E-Finance), according to Egypt's Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

The first phase includes industrial land allocation services, which will be provided through an investment map and by issuing operating licenses with annual notification and follow-up.

The platform would also provide electronic services to industrial investors, whose presence at any authority would no longer be required, including electronic payment services via various payment channels such as bank cards and branches.

Besides providing a secure account containing all information and documents industrial investors entered, the platform will automatically notify the investors of renewal dates for licenses and documents close to expiration.

Launching such a platform aligns with Egypt's commitment to implementing a comprehensive plan to boost its industrial sector, keep up with modern technological advancements, and facilitate investments.

Industry is a fundamental driver and opportunity for the economic and social growth of nations; let’s see how important it is for the economy
____

Industry and economic growth are two concepts that have gone hand in hand since the dawn of the first industrial revolution in the 18th century and that acquired even greater significance after the end of World War II, when industry emerged as the main bulwark of global social and economic growth, especially in Western countries. This great importance stems from, among other things, its tremendous capacity to generate technological innovations, with all the improvements in people’s quality of life that this entails; the quality of its jobs, whose stability and remuneration are above average; and its effect as a driving force on the other productive sectors.

Although this is reflected in the history and economics textbooks of any faculty, the crucial role of industry is more alive than ever. As the European Commission puts it, industry is “a key driver of productivity and innovation” and “a cornerstone of economic prosperity in Europe”. Economies of countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Poland are those with the greatest industrial contribution to GDP, with figures of well over 20%. This results in these economies being more export-oriented and, therefore, their balance of trade is more sustainable in the long term.

Nevertheless, European industry has not been immune to the phenomenon of globalisation, and in recent decades it has witnessed first-hand the relocation of a large part of its production to developing countries, as well as a diminishing significance in comparison with the services sector, which has experienced a boom. This dwindling importance has meant, in many cases, the destruction of millions of jobs, as well as a loss of competitiveness and innovation in many of the economies that have undergone deindustrialisation processes, especially significant in the countries of southern Europe.

For many years now, a large number of institutions, social agents and private associations have led the way in trying to secure a renewed commitment to industry. This is why, at the beginning of the last decade, the European Commission launched the Europe 2020 Strategy, whose 10-year target was for an intelligent, innovative and sustainable European industry to account for 20% of the European Union’s GDP; something that has not been achieved except in those regions and countries whose commitment to industry has never ceased.

Commitment to industrial structure, the great opportunity for economic recovery and growth
Therefore, it can be said that today’s industry, so far removed from the misleading image of a pollutant heavy industry in the early 20th century, is on an unprecedented path of modernisation and revitalisation which, moreover, looks set to play a fundamental role in achieving society’s main goals. A path marked by major challenges such as the European Green Deal, which aims for a climate-neutral 2050 in which European companies lead the world in clean products and technologies.

Reconverting our society towards this more sustainable model requires a commitment to industry in sectors such as capital goods (electricity grid), energy (renewables), transport (electric vehicles) or telecommunications (communication networks and digitalisation); sectors where an industry with a model of commitment to research and innovation would reinforce society’s shift towards a responsible model; bringing about a new industrial wave and creating hundreds of thousands of stable quality jobs.

With things as they are, European industry, a world leader in high value-added and highly sophisticated products and services with low carbon emissions, needs strong institutional support to adapt to today’s challenges and thus seize the huge opportunities afforded by the new industrial era. A new paradigm in which economic, social and environmental transformations, driven by digitalisation, automation and energy efficiency, are transforming traditional manufacturing processes.

Sadat City Industrial Zone

Sadat City lies at the 93th Kilo Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road. Its area is 500 km2. The total population is 18 km2 divided by 12 sectors. There are 70 000 people living in it. It has also five industrial zones on 5 million m2. It's surrounded by a green belt estimated by 30 000 feddans that's why the WHO puts the city as one of the best ten industrial communities in the Middle East Area for its clean environment and safety of natural resources. It has four industrial zones including 258 industrial projects, 153 projects under construction, 5 projects outlined by 416 projects and there's a big compound for producing iron and steel. It is the second city of the first generation built up by the Authority of New Population Communities in 1976. Its unique location between Cairo and Alexandria on one hand and the Nile Delta on the other hand has made it of great importance to be a great center of attracting both local and international investment.

Industrial Investment:

Industrial Investment is the backbone of development in Sadat City. The annual outcome of Sadat City exceeded L.E 4.6 billions in 1996. The Industrial Zone was planned to lie on the south of eastern area of the city in order to protect the population from steams and noise resulting from industrial activities.

Agricultural Investment & Food Security:

The general chart of the city contains about 30 000 feddans as a green belt extends around the city that's considered to be one of the city's landmarks in the desert. 20 000 feddans were reclaimed and now grown by grocery and fruit crops. There are also two centers for Agricultural Researches and Desert Development.

The Land Expansion:

On 26 March 1997, the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Population Communities laid the foundations of annexing five million m2 to the regional main road to cope up with the investment requirements in the city. Projects of infrastructure such as establishing and running sewerage networks, paving the roads, providing water resources and electric power needed for 2.5 million m2 have ended and the process of privatization to investors has started.

Industry Sectors:

Sadat City has attracted growing investments in the field of heavy, medium, and light industries in addition to small industrial workshops.
