Von Fock, The Baltic drama series, will premiere soon! 🎬✨

We at NAFTA Films are proud co-producers of Von Fock, an epic historical crime drama series directed by Estonian filmmaker Arun Tamm, set to premiere at the TV Beats Forum during Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event (18-20 November 2024).

With a nearly €4 million budget, Von Fock is one of the most ambitious and expensive series ever produced in the Baltic region! 💰🎥

We extend our genuine appreciation to the NAFTA Films Latvia team and our wonderful producer Gunda Bergmane for expertly overseeing a remarkable shoot throughout the summer of 2024 in Latvia and Estonia, in close cooperation with the entire NAFTA team in the Baltics.

This project is especially significant for all of us at NAFTA, as it marks the largest international TV series co-production in Latvia to date. 🇱🇻🎞️

Latvia contributed as a co-producer by bringing key members to the Von Fock creative team, who played a vital role in shaping the visual identity of the project.

ABOUT VON FOCK:

Based on novels by Ain Kütt, Von Fock follows the journey of Baltic German noble Paul von Fock as he takes over Sagadi Manor, navigating his role while being drawn into complex mysteries involving murder, stolen fortunes, and hidden identities. This period crime series showcases not only fascinating history but also the intricate cultural dynamics of the time. 🎭🕵️‍♂️

The Winners Are Announced!

As the 12th edition of the Baltic Pitching Forum (BPF) wrapped up, the Up Records Sound Post-Production Award, established by the Vilnius-based Up Records studio, was awarded to the Estonian project Breadsong, directed by Katariina Aule and produced by Andreas Kask.

Saulius Urbanavičius, the sound post-production supervisor at Up Records, shared their reasoning behind the choice: “Our decision was influenced by the originality of the story and the exciting potential of its sound design. Plus, we were eager to dive into the horror genre, which isn’t that common in Lithuania.”

Breadsong also received the Radiator IP Sales Distribution Award. Ben Vandendaele, the founder of Radiator IP Sales, said the award went to a project that “masterfully weaves an eerie atmosphere with profound commentary on the human condition.” He added that the company is excited to support the unique vision of director Katariina Aule and help guide this remarkable story forward.

Euroopa kultuuripealinn Tartu 2024 raames valminud lühifilmi „Eluteelised“ rahvusvaheline esilinastus toimub novembri keskel Amsterdami rahvusvahelisel dokumentaalfilmide festivalil IDFA.

Läti režissöör Viesturs Kairišsi linateos annab edasi Piirissaare kultuuri ja elutunnetust. „Film on inspireeritud ajast ja ruumist, milles iidsed kombed ja kogukonnad peegeldavad meie kaasaegse maailma reaalsust. Sümboolsesse keskkonda kehastunud kultuurikonfliktid tekitavad omavahel sidemeid ning panevad mõtlema nii kaasaegse konflikti tunnetuse ja selle muutumatu olemuse, aga ka võimaliku harmoonia ja kooseksisteerimise üle,“ selgitab režissöör.

Piirissaar on tilluke Eestile kuuluv saar Peipsi järves, otse Venemaa piiril. Ligi 300 aastat tagasi asusid sinna vene vanausulised, kes põgenesid õigeusu kiriku reformide ja tsaaririigi halastamatu tagakiusamise eest. Filmi ühe produtsendi, Olga Hartšuki sõnul, näitab niivõrd maineka filmifestivali võistluskategooriasse jõudmine, et, „lugu Piirissaare erilisest kogukonnast on inimesi puudutanud.”

„Tartu 2024 missiooniks on olnud uute, Tartust ja Lõuna-Eestist inspiratsiooni saanud kunstiteoste ellukutsumine, et need räägiksid meie Ellujäämise Kunstide Dokprogramm / Arts of Survival Documentaries lugu veel pikalt pärast tiitliaastat. Viesturs Kairišsi film viib Euroopa vaatajateni ühe meie omanäolisema piirkonna loo. Oleme uhked, et Tartu 2024 ühe suurima projekti raames valminud dokumentaalfilmid on jõudmas järjest erinevatele festivalidele üle maailma.“ kommenteeris uudist Euroopa kultuuripealinn Tartu 2024 loovjuht Kati Torp.

14.-24. novembril 37. korda Amsterdamis toimuv IDFA on maailma üks olulisimaid dokumentaalfilmide festivale, pakkudes mitmekülgset programmi filmitegijatelt üle terve maailma. „Eluteelised“ on valitud IDFA lühifilmide rahvusvahelisse võistlusprogrammi.

Filmi „Eluteelised“ režissöör on Viesturs Kairišs. Operaatorid Wojciech Staroń, Tomek Pawlik, monteerija Andres Hallik, helilooja Juris Vaivods, helirežissöör Leonid Bragin. Filmi produtsendid on Esko Rips ja Olga Hartšuk. Tootjafirmad Nafta Films (Eesti).

Eesti vaatajad on filmi „Eluteelised“ saanud näha kevadel Tartus esilinastunud lühifilmikogumikus „Metsik lõuna“, mis on Eesti kinolevis kogunud üle 1500 vaataja. Filmikogumik koosneb nelja kodumaise ja nelja välismaise režissööri nägemusest, mis kaardistavad elu Tartus ja Lõuna-Eestis vahetult enne 2024. aastat.

„Eluteelised“ on valminud Eesti Filmi Instituudi, SA Tartu 2024, Kultuurkapitali ja Tartu Filmifondi toel.

We are pleased to announce that the short film directed by Viesturs Kairišs and produced by Esko Rips and Olga Hartšuk has been selected for the IDFA Competition for Short Documentary!

The film is set on Piirissaar, a tiny Estonian island in Lake Peipus, on the very border of Russia. The Russian Old Believers who inhabited the island appeared here 300 years ago, during the Great Northern War, fleeing from the religious reforms in the Orthodox Church and to avoid being mobilized in the Russian army.
As the waves have washed the island smaller and smaller, the community here has also fused over time, inevitably reaching the brink of extinction. However, the local culture and sense of life that developed in isolation from the rest of the "Russian world" has not yet completely disappeared from Piirissaar.

Director Viesturs Kairišs says: “The film is meant to be very poetic.This world is fragile and harsh at the same time. To capture it more precisely, we, together with the DOP Wojtek Staron, have decided to film it on 16 mm. This world asks for a "real cinema".”
