Bach WTC…looking beyond the big names
There are two recordings of Bach’s WTC 48 by lesser known “names” which bring me constant joy…and for very different reasons. One is Niklas Sivelov (HVB records) and the other is Peter Hill (Delphinian). Sivelov is a highly proactive musician in the best way, his Bach brim full of imaginative spark and ideas that constantly surprise and delight. Hill’s, by contrast, is a supremely beautiful reading, full of innate, unforced musicianship. To say his is “easy listening” would be to damn with faint praise. But it IS comfortable, relaxed listening where Sivelov is dynamic and challenging.
Hill’s piano is recorded up close with a pearly smooth aura that caresses the ear and indeed the soul. Sivelov is set at a slightly further back and the piano sound is brighter, suiting his wider dynamic palate. I would not want to be without either version and strongly recommend owning both to suit your mood.
I have many versions by the usual suspects on my shelves: Gould, Schiff, Hewitt, Koroliev…to name just a few. But if big name artists are not essential to you then give both of these marvellous musicians a whirl. You won’t give them up.

Happy New Year 2025!
2024 was a really successful year for AMC/Amchara Artists, both artistically and with sales.
During 2024 we got psysical distribution contracts with Germany and USA.
We have been on the the Naxos Top list as no. 1 (Beethoven opus 2), no. 3 (several weeks with Beethoven vol. 2) as well as with several Bach recordings!
The 2 lastest productions with music by Beethoven did recieve very high praise in Politiken, Opus Magazine, Svenska Dagbladet, Musicweb International and Semana.😁😁
We are very grateful for our loyal audience and see you all next year!
