In the film Gladiator there is a female Nubian archer on the back of a horse chariot fighting in the Colloseum. But how historically correct is her character? We're the Gladiatrices real?

With more evidence coming to light every day about these female fighters, we're trying to unravel the truth behind them and to shed light on their importance and fame throughout ancient Rome.

This woman, Lise Meitner, was not even mentioned in the film, Oppenheimer. Yet, the man who worked with her for many years was mentioned. That man got the Nobel prize even though she was nominated 48 times. She was the one who figured out about fission of Uranium, etc. We will not have equality before we change our attitudes, educate ourselves truthfully and bring to light these truths as common knowledge.

The Onna Bugeisha were a female warrior class in Japan who lived during a time when it was tradition to train women to fight to protect the household. They were numerous and as skilled and honorable as the samurai in the art of combat, archery, martial arts and horseback riding. On the battlefield they would earn the title of Onna Musha.

After the Japanese Civil War in the 18. hundreds, and with the demise of the Shogunate, Japanese society changed rapidly, also ending the history of the Onna Bugeisha. Onna Bugeisha like Tomoe Gozen and Nakano Takeko have influenced naginata schools where the techniques are still being trained today.
