In 2006 I saw my only display of an A-10 at the Open House in Edwards.
In just over three weeks' time, I'll get to see the warthog again in Oshkosh. It will definitely be the last opportunity to marvel at an A-10 display. So I hope the weather gods will honour the occasion and push all the clouds aside.

Next month I will be visiting the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the first time.
The programme promises great things. To my great delight, the Snowbirds of the Canadian Air Force will also be showing their programme from Friday to Sunday.
So far, I have only seen the team once at Fleet Week 2017 in San Francisco.

We had one of our very first air-to-air shoots in 2015 at the open day at Bohmte/Bad Essen airfield in Germany.
Our model was a beautiful Boeing Stearman with Matze at the controls.
A lot has happened since then, but we still have fond memories of that shoot.

Thank you, Matze , for taking us seriously back then! That was the beginning of an exciting journey.

It's been a long, long time. Back then, it felt like two queens were granting us an audience. We stood barefoot in the warm sand in awe and were impressed.
It doesn't matter what hobby you have, the main thing is that it brings moments like this. Even 17 years later, the travellers from back then still sit together from time to time. ‘Do you remember ...?’

I wonder if anyone will paint me nice and colourful at the end of my service?
Although the Sea King and I are almost the same age, only one of us will be decommissioned. Even though I'm probably an old hand in some areas, I haven't planned to retire any time soon. At least as far as I can intervene in this planning.
The situation is very different for the German Navy's Sea King. The end of August is the irrevocable end.

Today is Ferrari Sunday!

The highlight of my visit to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello was this fantastic 330 P4. Only four examples of this vehicle were produced. All of them have survived to this day.

The car with chassis number 0856 was built in 1967 and is privately owned in Canada.

A piece of Marineflieger history in pictures.

A unique shoot with two legends of the Deutschen Marine. After more than 50 years in SAR service, the remaining Sea King will be officially decommissioned by the German Navy at the end of August.

I'm certainly no saint with my hobbies.

Nevertheless:

I live on the edge of the forest. There is a wheat field between my living room window and the trees.

Outside, the sun is shining and it's nice and warm. The place should be teeming with insects. However, the airspace around my flat is dead as a doornail as far as insects are concerned. A few bumblebees and bees are flying around. I haven't seen any butterflies yet this spring.

42% of insect species native to Germany are considered endangered, extremely rare or already extinct.

Human behaviour must change on many levels. Insects have no lobby. But without them, things are getting tight ...

The mighty F15 in Rainbow Canyon.

The low-flying area is in the middle of nowhere. Critics would probably call it the arse end of the world. About three hours by car from Las Vegas.

For aviation fans, however, the journey is worthwhile. At least most of the time. It is said that there have been days when not one aircraft has passed the canyon.

I was certainly lucky during my visit in 2017.

This flight was almost eight years ago. In my memory, it was less than 24 hours ago.

A highlight in my life as an aviation photographer. Even though the photo is certainly not perfect by my current standards, it is one of my all-time favourites.

59 years ago today, the Red Arrows of the Royal Air Force flew their first display.

I first saw the team with the fiery red Hawks when I was nine years old at an airshow in Damme, Lower Saxony, Germany in 1983. This encounter left a lasting impression on me.
To this day I am a big fan of the Reds, probably the best display team in the world.

I haven't seen them for a few years and am looking forward to seeing them again on May 25th, weather permitting, at the Meeting Aérien International Du Grand Est, Chambley, France.
