A female lion decides against her attack and retreats from a wall of angry buffalo. The un-cropped sequence of these images, and more, feature in the final Botswana video uploading tonight. This are, in my opinion, some of the best wildlife photos I captured all year.

Approaching the abandoned fishing village of Assaqutaq in Western Greenland.

Assaqutaq is an abandoned settlement located in the Amerloq Fjord at the base of Nasaasaaq Mountain. It is about 10km from the town of Sisimiut.

The settlement was officially closed in 1968 under the government’s initiative to consolidate the population of Greenland, and the buildings were left to decay. In recent years, a handful of the buildings have been restored and are now used for school excursions and summer camps.

A visit to this village is an amazing photography and travel experience, allowing one to clearly imagine how the settlement used to look, and see what several decades in the harsh Arctic climate can do.
