Ohashi Hirofumi was ten years old when he first got hands on Hatsuyoron, Dosetsu Inseki Inoue’s famous problem collection. When he looked at the problems inside, it was as if a current of electricity ran through him; the originality of the shapes and the vividness of the move sequences born from them felt like an explosion of art. From that day, composing go problems has been an integral part of Ohashi‘s life.

In the collection ’Banri Ikku’, Ohashi-sensei has gathered some of the most interesting go problems he has composed over the years. The difficulty level of the problems seems to be aimed at strong amateur players; in fact, about half of the problems in the book are difficult enough to give even an active professional player pause.

The game of Go is, occasionally, referred to as a sitting martial art. This series of books is dedicated to kyū ranked players and uses the following colors to represent belt colors often used in martial arts rating systems: white (beginner), yellow, orange, green, blue and then brown.

Takemiya (武宮正樹) is famous for his unique style, the so-called cosmic style, which focuses on the centre and plays with very very large territories.
In Japan, there are many books presenting his games. One of these standing out is "Cosmic Go", which was first available to western Go players in French only.
Now, finally, there is also an English edition. Takemiya explains why he chooses moves in his way, what a natural development of the game means to him. In the fourth chapter, Takemiya invites the reader to find the natural move himself, to implement the Cosmic Style.

Le « Le Go Cosmique », de Takemiya Masaki (武宮正樹), est sans aucun doute le meilleur livre de go que j’ai lu jusqu’à ce jour. Je l’ai déjà dévoré à d’incalculables reprises, et plus je le relis, plus je ressens la nécessité de le rendre accessible en d’autres langues que le japonais. En effet, ce livre suscite en moi une émotion telle que je voulais absolument la faire partager au plus grand nombre possible de joueurs de go. Je suis certain que ce livre vous permettra de découvrir une nouvelle approche du jeu de go, un autre univers, peut-être plus poétique et plus philosophique.
