This weeks concert is Blue Cheer recorded at the Harmonie Club Bonn in 2008. The concert captured highlights from their storied career, from their gritty take on Mose Allison’s “Parchment Farm” to the pounding energy of newer tracks like “I’m Gonna Get To You.” Culminating with their signature “Summertime Blues,” the recording is a vibrant memorial to their legacy. Tragically, Dickie Peterson’s death in 2009 marked the end of Blue Cheer, but their thunderous contributions to rock history continue to echo.

Mit großer Trauer nehmen wir Abschied von Manfred Schütz, einem herausragenden Visionär der Musikbranche und einem prägenden Wegbereiter der Independent-Musikszene. Der Gründer von SPV und Gründer und Geschäftsführer von MIG Music verstarb am 3. Januar 2025 nach längerer, schwerer Krankheit im Alter von 74 Jahren.

Manfred war eine treibende Kraft der Musiklandschaft. Mit der Gründung von SPV im Jahr 1984 schuf er eine Plattform, die es unabhängigen Künstlern und Labels ermöglichte, weltweit Gehör zu finden. SPV wurde zu einer der bedeutendsten Größen im Bereich der Independent-Labels, insbesondere in der Rock-, Metal- und Elektronikszene, und war lange Zeit der größte Independent Musikvertrieb Europas.

Nach seinem Ausstieg bei SPV gründete Manfred MIG Music. Dort hatte er es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, musikalische Schätze vor dem Vergessen zu retten. Durch sein immenses Musikwissen kamen dabei viele beeindruckende und überaschende Veröffentlichungen zustande. Nicht selten erreichten uns Mails von Fans, die sich für die Arbeit von MIG Music bedankten.

Manfred war aber nicht nur Musikliebhaber und Geschäftsmann, sondern auch ein offener und herzlicher Mensch. Seine Bürotür stand grundsätzlich offen und er hatte immer ein Ohr für seine Mitarbeiter.

Wir werden Manfred vermissen. Wir verlieren nicht nur einen Chef, sondern insbesondere einen guten Freund.

Wir können uns den Worten, die Ecki Stieg, Freund und Wegbegleiter, in seinem Nachruf schreibt, nur anschließen: “Mit Manfred geht ein Labelchef der „alten Schule“ mit allen Ecken und Kanten, zugleich ein echter Kenner und Fan.“

MIG Music wird unter der Geschäftsführung von Tanja Michaelis und Volker Pape, im Sinne von Manfred, weiter bestehen.

Our last concert for this year is the 1982 Rockpalast show by none other than Andreas Vollenweider! This recording shows the young Vollenweider showcasing his unique style of music on the stage of the beautiful Loreley open-air theater at the edges of the river Rhine.

On this St. Nicolas day, we have something really cool for you. In 1991 Rockpalast creator Peter Rüchel, Rockpalast director Christian Wagner, and musicians Uli Jon Roth and Peter Bursch had the idea to put on a show to honor the memory of none other than the mighty Jimi Hendrix. They put together an all-star band including among others Jack Bruce, Simon Phillips, John Wetton, Michael Flexig, Randy Hansen and of course Uli Jon Roth and Peter Bursch. The concert was a huge success and is one of the Rockpalast recordings with the most reruns on German television.
