SCENIUS @scenius.band perpetuates the art of making electronic dark-pop out of vintage synths and rhythm machines, blending the spirit and sounds of early electronic outfits (Kraftwerk, Eno, Foxx, Numan) with a clearly modern approach. The duo is composed of UK producer Steve Whitfield (The Cure, The Mission, Yann Tiersen…) and French singer Fab Nau. Their new album "Life is a Thing" comes out the 19th of May.
Robotic beats and sweeping melodies have always been a winning combination. When John Foxx helmed Ultravox, when Martin Gore took over the Depeche Mode reins from Vince Clarke, when Underworld were thrilling filmgoers as well as ravers..... all these bands had a rock grandeur.
However briefly, however irritating it might have been to guitar purists, synthesizers became cool - they became the scene.
Scenius are part of a fresh synthesizer reawakening. Following their acclaimed 2020 debut, Enough Fears, they embarked upon a scattering of select live shows. This post-lockdown proximity afforded the duo a heightened mutual awareness and appreciation. The closer collaboration bore fruit in the form of Life Is A Thing, a pristine set of contemporary compositions. Whilst their debut dazzled, Scenius cast a wider emotive net on this new release, doubling down on heart and soul. The new long-player sets out to delight and subvert in equal measure. Alienated vocals are backed by dark, sensual grooves - basslines thrum, those vintage synths throb and the listener will sway to its glorious tuneage.
Lyrics here tackle the different ways we manage to move on - or try to and sometimes fail to - when things seem to be falling apart, either in our own life (A Million To Go, Hindsight, Life Is A Thing Again) or in the world around (Hot Dust, La Même Nuit, Rise Above).

New premiere for @erokwol on @liserxrex - Following the releases of "Apokalipszis" [LSRX001], "Szinestezia" [LSRX002], and "Li(v)e" [LSRX006], Erok Wol returns with his new solo work, "Cosmix Ritu," on the 10th release of LISERX. This ritual also marks the conclusion of the first phase of the label, and "Cosmix Ritu" materializes into three audiovisual productions that take us on a sensory journey.
If the first chapter of LISERX began with the apocalypse, the first track of the EP, "Six Mundux Creatux Ext," is an allegory of genesis, representing the beginning of everything and how it was created. In the journey depicted in the second track, "Iniuriam Iter," we see that sometimes we are not prepared for the journeys we undertake. To conclude this tenth chapter, we have "Novum Vetux," which allows us to contemplate the entire cosmic journey taken over the past six years.

The debut release from hot new Glasgow label Curriculum Vital comes from none other than its founder Vital Spark.
Written and recorded during the cold harsh Scottish winter, Diskoteket is the antithesis of the long dark nights, exuding positive vibes and playfulness.
On the A-side, the EP's title track Diskoteket pays homage to our neighbours across the North Sea, whilst the A2 Leijonat looks even further east, an imagined anthem to its namesake.
The B-side opens up with Stone Of Destiny, a Eurodance channelling banger dedicated to a certain watering hole in Glasgow's West End. Those who know, know...Finally the record finishes with Pace Yourself, a straight up peak time club cut with a gentle reminder to take it easy once in a while.
With Diskoteket, Vital Spark provides a modern take on the classic sounds of genres like Italo Disco and Eurodance - big synths, liberal use of arpeggiators and just the right amount of nostalgia.
