The time has come! New SCANNER full-length album after almost a decade! “The Cosmic Race” will be released on January 12, 2024 and as the band’s highly decorated discography dictates, this one is a concept album! A few words about the album, from the band’s mastermind Axel Julius: “Since the lyrics of the album are about humans leaving the earth to colonize a new planet, our goal was to create this spirit of optimism, which never has a purely euphoric side, but also harbors doubts and fear of the unknown to be reflected in the songs. We also try to bring a certain melancholy into these songs. In the middle of the album's creation process, we were just at the end of the pandemic, which led directly into the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which initially caused our creativity to paralyze. Some people may have been aware that no HAPPY METAL could be expected from SCANNER during such phases. Close friends have already told us that the band sounds a bit “darker”. Not that we used to avoid the minor chord, but We definitely use it a little more often here. And we believe that this also corresponds to the current state of mind of many people on this planet. Ultimately, we tried to musically realize the balance between these currently difficult times and the hope for a humane future. The album definitely conveys several levels of emotion musically, but without diminishing SCANNER's recognition value. That's why there are speedy songs as well as midtempo songs and you always get SCANNER. I'm sure our fans will like the album very much and will appreciate that the music follows a conceptual story. If you like, you can listen to the album in the conceptual chronological order via a playlist. The story is told in the booklet and specifies this order.”

In a time when the band’s iconic and celebrated debut ‘Dying Remains’ reaches its thirty year milestone, and with recent live activity on both sides of the Atlantic seeing the quartet performing to a ravenous fanbase of metalheads both old and new, Morta Skuld now returns with a ten track opus of pure death metal in their unrelenting and unwavering pursuit of heaviness, still going strong after three decades, as the band unleashes their successor to 2020’s ‘Suffer For Nothing’.

With themes exploring an increasingly savage, corrupt and destructive state of the world in present times, and executed with a razor-sharp precision, with ferocious and hook-laden compositions to match and even exceed any of their highly-regarded early output.

Following the devastating impact of COVID and the world at large falling into disrepair and dismay, Morta Skuld were inspired to write their new album about the state of world and what it had become in the wake of this new era.

Opting for a different writing strategy this time around rather than writing a song and performing it at rehearsals the band instead took their practice sessions as writing sessions. Focusing on a single song and honing it until it was completed before moving onto the next song. It was a fantastic way to keep the album feeling focused and fresh

Dave Gregor states: "We Rise We Fall" is the debut single to be released from our forthcoming record entitled "Creation Undone". Fresh but rooted in the vein of old school death metal, it is sure to have something for everyone. We worked harder than ever on this record and took a different approach writing and recording it. We look forward to seeing all of you on the road next year when this album drops.

‘Creation Undone’ was recorded and mixed at Belle City Sound Studios by Chris Djuricic, with mastering work conducted at Flatline Audio with Dave Otero.

Morta Skuld formed in Milwaukee in 1990, quickly producing two demos before going on to release three albums on Peaceville Records (initially via legendary sub-label Deaf Records) in the early-mid 90's. After the release of their new album ‘This Is What A Winner Looks Like’ earlier this year, Godsticks unveil a new video in celebration of the album’s next single ‘Throne’.

‘Throne’ itself exists very much in the heavier sphere of the band with downtuned chugging guitars forming the driving of the verse before the song opens up for a melodic and memorable chorus, culminating in a euphoric finale. The video, produced by Martin Holmes ( ) brings the ferocious nature of the band’s live performance to foreground.

Frontman and guitarist Darran Charles had the following to say:

“Throne was one of those tracks that had been taunting me for a number of years. I had the verse and intro nailed years ago but every time I tried to develop it further, I just hit a creative brick wall. I’m sure that wall gets higher and thicker for some songs more than others, but I don’t think I’ve ever given up on a song if, deep down, I knew there was potential there.

Thankfully with the help of the rest of the band, I broke through that goddamn mo*********ng wall and as soon as I hit upon that chorus melody, everything flowed easy. It’s become one of my favourite songs on the record and also the hardest to play live, but given that we never shirk a challenge you can expect this song to feature in every setlist from now to eternity.”

Darran expands on the meaning behind the track as well:

“Lyrically, Throne is about the bottomless pit of someone’s narcissism when they have a position of power. Where they’re both absolutely sure minded and also the most fragile person ever, and how those two states usually go hand-in-hand. So as with the half of our songs, it deals with my frustration with other humans .. the other half of course dealing with my frustration with myself.”

The band is determined to do as many live performances as possible in support of 'This Is What A Winner Looks Like', especially because it was live performance itself that provided the initial creative spark that spawned so much of the music on the album.

Darran Charles commented that:

“We asked and listened to where our fans want to see us play, so as well as returning to happy hunting grounds like London and Manchester, we're doing our first ever headline show in Bristol. Plus there's not one, but two chances for our Welsh brethren to come see us live again! We love being on tour so we're very excited to be playing more headline gigs, and to be working with the good people at Planet Rock again for the Winter's End festival.”

Their love for writing and productivity had been reignited simply by being able to perform live. Experimenting with electronic sounds and delegating writing duties in the band allowed ‘This Is What A Winner Looks Like’ to be their most collaborative album to date.

Pirate Queen, the first all-female Pirate Metal band from the Bermuda Triangle, releases debut single 'Pirates from the Sea', taken from their debut album "Ghosts" to be released 23 of February 2024.

To commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Pirate Queen’s debut single "Pirates from the Sea" will be released on November 24, 2023 via Despotz records. The release of the album in February 2024, will fit perfectly in timing with the new Pirates Of The Caribbean movie that Disney will release next year.
