Every day i read about underrated bands...
Here is one, you need to check out these pioneers: National Na**lm Syndicate
It's Saturday afternoon here in Germany. Time to introduce you to a Finnish thrash metal band that is unfortunately far too unknown. But that will change now💪
I present to you National Na**lm Syndicate
The Finns delivered an absolute highlight with their last album "The New Hell". It was released on Iron Shield Records, who have once again shown a fine hand.
I had the chance to contact founding member Jukka Kyrö. And this totally likeable contemporary immediately agreed to do a little interview with me. Have fun reading🤩
1. Tell us a few few words about your band
- ok, here we go, we started back in 1986, we wanted to be part of the whole thrash metal scene which was blooming and we loved. Now 37 years later we are still doing the same thing, well we’ve had some lineup changes but the original idea is still remaining. Thrash metal with a touch of prog, punk and nwobhm.
2. Tell us something about the next record
-the next one is almost written now, it will be a natural progression from the ”the new hell” album. Maybe a bit more thrashy and a bit shorter. Short violent blasts of metal. And we will do a ”Venomous Encounters Part 2” the story will continue. I have some album title ideas but it is too early to say anything about that. This lineup is the best we have had, it’s a pleasure to work with these guys.
3. Name your 5 alltime favorite records
ok, this is not easy, my musical taste is so fu***ng all over the place but I will give the top 5 at this moment.
1. Vio-lence – eternal nightmare (this is THE thrash metal album for me, i have to mention Assassin Interstellar Experience too because it is so fu***ng good)
2. Radiohead – OK Computer ( heavier than you would imagine, a brilliant piece of work)
3. Hanoi Rocks – two steps from the move ( finnish rockers who could have been the biggest band of the 80’s)
4. Diamond Head – Lightning to the nations (this could be any of the DH albums, the latest was a killer too and the new version of this kicked some serious ass)
5. Lama – s/t ( the greatest finnish hc punk band ever. )
Tomorrow this list will be different but right now those are the best 5 in my mind.
4. Name 5 musicians you wanna party with (including dead ones)
- this is interesting! Well, lets start with John Lennon, I would love to ask him some questions about the beatles and his solo albums. Jim Morrison, he could be a funny guy to get drunk with. Gary Holt, he quit drinking but he is still the best thrash metal guitarist in the world. Lemmy, because he is Lemmy. Hapa, our guitar player, because he is the coolest drunk I have ever known.
5. Name 5 bands you would book at your own festival
-let’s see, it would be a metal festival, so I will choose bands that deliver and bands that I havent seen yet. The headliner have to be Slayer, then below them Blind Illusion, Sacrifice, Exodus and Holy Moses playing the Finished with Dogs album.
6. Name 5 bands from your home country everyone should know
Let me see, ok, here we go:
1. Hanoi Rocks, because they were the best rock band ever
2. Smack, bevause they were the second best rock band ever
3. KTMK, because they were the best hardcore band ever
4. Reverend Bizarre, because they were heavier than a dying planet on the edge of a black hole
5. Terveet Kädet, hardcore pioneers, huge influence to Sepultura among others. Us included.
7. Name 5 gigs you like most as a visitor
Now this goes all over the musical genres yet again, but here’s the top concerts
so far:
1. Black Sabbath, the first reunion tour with Ozzy. I fu***ng cried when they started the gig.
2. S*x Pistols, the reunion get the money tour.
3. Megadeth, Oulu Qstock festival, Mustaine was funny as f**k and they played a greta set.
4. Kent, Oulu, rock/pop perfection from Sweden, well half of the guys are from Oulu… Oulu is my home town.
5. Savatage , Oulu Kuusrock festival, maybe 1987, it was good it was the Savatage playing Power Of The Night...
