On her new album FREYHEIT, Sylvia Ackermann, a specialist in historical keyboard instruments, presents fantasies and sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Carl Philip Emanuel Bach. Recorded by Kaan Bulak at J.S. Bach’s former place of work, Köthen Castle, Ackermann’s performance of CPE Bach and Mozart on a tangent grand piano (Schmahl 1790), fortepiano (Schiedmayer 1783) and clavecin royal (ca. 1785) brings out the unique musical and tonal diversity of each instrument. The Schiedmayer fortepiano has been recorded for the first time with these works.
