Progressive Classical Music Award Bringing some fresh air in the chamber music scene and reviving the classical music – that was the Einzige formale Vorgabe: Das Werk soll ca. 5min dauern.

question: What work of art in music, or visual art or literature, are you missing? It can be something unfinished or non-existent.
For us, it is quite clear: for our instrumentation, the works of the grand masters are missing. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach or Vivaldi in the baroque period, but also the great romantics like Brahms etc. have not composed anything for violin duo. However, we have been making a virtue out of this misery and have been making sure that the composers who are currently alive write for us by offering the Progressive Classical Music Award . And when Christoph feels like it, he simply rearranges a piece, such as the Four Seasons for us 😄

Our Story

Bringing some fresh air in the chamber music scene and reviving the classical music – that was the goal of Marie-Luise & Christoph Dingler (The Twiolins), when they originated the Progressive Classical Music Award. The competition is held every three years to expand the repertoire for two violins. In the years 2009, 2012 and2015 it has met a positive response with each about 500 composers from 5 countries participating.

The competition is seeking music which “gets under the skin and sweeps the audience off their feet” . Whether using virtuosity or great emotions– it’s the composers’ choice. Only one formal condition: The work should last about 5 minutes.

The Competition rules have been designed flexible intentionally to allow creation of new music with contemporary emotions. This diversity of styles is supposed to contribute to a sustainable development of the classical concerts and audiences.

During the CCA the audience is directly involved in the running of the competition. After a pre-selection by a representative jury, consisting of established musicians, composers and conductors (Prof. Christoph Po**en, Prof. Sidney Corbett, Aleksey Igudesman u.a.), six finalists advance to the grande finale: All selected works will be premiered by the Twiolins and the audience (300 – 400 attendees) then votes on the awards.
