Salt and metals already in prehistoric times attracted miners to the wild mountain valleys of the Alps. The places of extraction of gold and silver, iron, copper and other non-ferrous metals have changed greatly at the present time, but in new places the development of mountain resources is being carried out on a large scale on a modern technical basis.
