Looking forward to this year, with upcoming exciting projects involving sled dogs :-)
These guys were my dogs in Greenland, from left to right: old dog, brown dog, white dog, Elvira, orange dog and black dog. Not pictured here is Crazy dog, who i adopted later.
When I left Greenland, I gave them to a nice local person.

I came back from Greenland in July, and it took (and still takes) some time to sort and dig through 12 TB of data. I'll now share little snippets, pieces and stories as they come up. Throughout the next year, I will edit a film on the 6 months spent up there as well. Here just for the fun of it - a picture of a cool ice berg, with even cooler Carsten on top, our doctor at that time :-)

With the dogs I got, we walked and dog sledded all the way from Qaanaaq to Qeqertat and back :) One way was about 70km, which took us 2-3 days. On the way there, we went with 4 dogs, who mainly pulled our luggage and we walked. On the way back, we got two additional dogs from Qeqertat, which now allowed for sitting on the sled when the snow was hard enough. A very cool trip with and .

I got four dogs today - these guys will be my companions for the remaining weeks in Greenland! I always wanted to drive a Greenlandic dogsled, and with those guys I might have the chance to give it a shot! Together with and we are about to set out to a trip to Qeqertat, partly on foot, partly by dog team. None of us are very experienced in driving a sled yet.. Little adventure to come ;-)

We made it! I travelled with a supercool family and tough dogs from Savissivik all the way from there to Qaanaaq. The route is about 250km which took us 7 days. We went across sea ice, glaciers, steep hills and camped overnight. Definitely the most amazing trip I‘ve done here so far!

Greenland dogs are the heros! As I walked through the storm today, I almost accidentally stepped on some because they were COMPLETELY buried in the snow. They just curl up and sleep. These are definitely the toughest dogs on earth.

It’s amazing to experience the different characters of greenlandic sled dogs. This one here is Fritz. He is very young, and also a little clumsy. He is the one that always gets entangelt in all the ropes on the sled, and is also the one that’s hardest to get a picture of because he’s always jumping around. But, he is super cute and the friendliest dog ever.

These are hunting huts, which you find all around the common hunting areas along the coast. Hunters travel there by dog team and stay for some nights while hunting or fishing. The huts are often quite small, which makes them easy to heat.

Happy International Women’s day!! I happen to be a woman, and have never seen it as a big deal, because if I was a man I might be doing the same thing in terms of filming. Or would I? Would I do the same projects, or has being a woman either helped or prevented me from getting into some? Probably both, hard to tell.
But just from my bubble of experience, I learned that if you really go for something, you usually get there or somewhere better, be it as a woman or a man or whatever in between ;-)

Filmwise, 2021 was a really cool year, literally. First it was fun filming workshops where I learned to enjoy taking baths in ice cold water. Then we travelled to Northern Sweden in winter and filmed with reindeers, where we also experienced the most amazing northern lights I've ever seen (this here is a phone picture of it without editing). The film about Alaskan moose got accepted at many festivals, and last but not least the whole year was full of preparations for a long time to be spent in Northern Greenland...

In 2021, the longest film I was happy to be part of as camera person, was a documentary for which we filmed with the Sami people and their reindeers. We spent 2 months in Northern Sweden's winter and learned a lot about the way of life of Europe's only remaining indigineous people.

Since yesterday I am another year older, and looking at the past year, I learned a lot of new things, both physically and mentally. One of the most memorable things was taking ice baths.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It takes commitment and trust to go into ice cold water. Once you're in there, it's interesting how the situation can either be difficult and hard to stand, or relaxing and peaceful. It's all a matter of mindset and breath. Sitting in there, breathing slowly and enjoying it, it teaches how to relax outside of your comfort zone. In the end, it becomes easier to relax under pressure, even in real life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Two films I made with Josephine Worseck and Douwe van den Berg can be seen on youtube :)

These were the first Northern lights I ever experienced. I was making the film about sled dogs and mushers at that time. It was end of February, I was in Alaska by myself, waiting for the Iditarod. Sitting on the Susitna River in Talkeetna, making time lapses and enjoying the lights, I was thinking about how on earth I'd be able to get to the Iditarod start in Willow to film it. In the middle of the night and dark, a head lamp came walking towards me. It was a little scary, but I was curious as well. Turned out, a guy was looking for some gloves he lost. We started talking, and he told me, he was in Alaska to take pictures of the Iditarod as well, and I got the opportunity to join him to the starting line in Willow on his snow machine! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is one little story out of MANY, how things sometimes play out and come together when filming.. I usually leave plans pretty open to be flexible for opportunities... and they often appear :)

This is a coyote in Alaska. In a spiritual sense, they embody the two sides of a coin, that each thing and story in life contains. Good and bad, light and dark, happiness and sadness… one does not exist without the other, and they tend to balance out over time.

Taking baths in ice cold water seemed like an impossible thing to do to me. Standing outside at -10C and taking off all my clothes? And then walk into freezing water? NEVER i thought. Until I tried..
It feels great. Combined with a positive mind and relaxed breathing, you learn to let go. It had always been hard for me to let go - of thoughts, people, whatever - and it still is to some extend. Taking ice baths definitely helps to clear the mind. It makes you feel very fresh and light. Often you just laugh afterwards.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks for encouraging me to try and stick with it, and . The films we made are on youtube!

This is looking from a bridge in Bute, Alaska. Somehow it looks very meditative. It shows how everything comes and goes. Everything leaves traces which might change what has been, but can create something nicer than what was before.

Everybody is always "busy". Being "too busy" is a universal excuse for a countless number of things. Still, it is considered something positive. If somebody is not "busy", he is quickly seen as unproductive and lazy. But being busy does not mean being productive, being busy does not even mean having a fullfilled life, eventhough such a life seems full and filled. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In fact, I think that a good rest, laying around, letting thoughts come and go, can lead to a lot more productivity and efficiency than being on-the-go non-stop. Time to slow down and take slower breaths, time to put things in a larger perspective and set priorities, helps so much in getting new ideas and getting rid of stress. So, if you're too busy, consider laying around for a while, consider being the bear :)

In Alaska, you gotta share the road with moose. When there's a lot of snow on the ground, it is easier for them to walk on the road than in the hills and forests. Every year, there are about 600 crashes with cars and moose in south central Alaska. More about all that in my film "The Circle of Moose"!
